Bloomington police officers arrested 26-year-old Royal Amos, a "person of interest" in the Marion County double homicide of Keyonia Dunn, 20, and Erika Thornton, 31, early Friday morning in the parking lot of the Jackson Creek Shopping Center.

Hat tradition cherished at Black History Month event

About 70 people, some with rather exotic head ornaments, participated in an event Sunday afternoon to praise blacks and their role in society. The Monroe County Library played host to a program called Bloomington-style Crown's Day, part of the month-long black history celebration, cosponsored by Ivy Tech Community College and the Bloomington Black Business Bureau.

Meal points to roll over into fall semester

After this year, students with meal points might never again have to storm the C-store for junk food to spend their leftover points each May. Beginning next spring, 75 percent of leftover points from every meal plan contract will roll over into the fall semester.

Hoosiers win Big Ten thriller against Badgers

With No. 7 Ohio State on the horizon, the IU women's basketball team won a 71-64 thriller Thursday night in Madison, Wisc., against the Badgers. The Hoosiers trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half, but fought back and held off a tenacious Badgers team.

Water polo team begins 2006 campaign Saturday at Michigan

After finishing last season with a 24-10 (7-0) record, the IU women's water polo team opens its season ranked No. 11. The Hoosiers started last season with the same ranking and topped last season at No. 6, but dropped to No. 10 after losing to Michigan 7-6.

IU welcomes Purdue for Senior Day

The No. 11 IU men's swimming and diving team will honor eight seniors Saturday when it plays host to archrival No. 14 Purdue in its last tune-up before the Big Ten Championships. Those being honored include Hank Baldwin, Thomas Clavier, Ryan Fagan, Sergiy Fesenko, Mike Jones, Brian Mariano, Jesse Rappaport and Kevin Swander.
