IU prepared for night game at Louisville

The IU field hockey team will have a rare chance to play under the lights when it heads to Louisville to face the No. 13 Cardinals at 7 p.m. today at Trager Stadium. The Hoosiers (7-8, 0-5) are fresh off a 2-1 overtime win against Stanford on Monday and will try to carry that momentum with them to Louisville.

IU club baseball wraps up dominant fall this weekend

The IU club baseball team’s fall exhibition season will conclude this weekend with home games against Michigan on Saturday and Sunday. In the program’s third year of existence, the Hoosiers have been dominant in the fall, posting a record of 13-1, and look forward to continued dominance in the spring.

Superstitious sports fans, you are not alone

This past Sunday, my friend, who we will call O-Steve for privacy reasons, did something unnatural – at least unnatural to a non-sports fan. O-Steve decided that for lunch before the Minnesota Vikings game, he was going to get Subway like he did last week. But instead of going to the Subway near our house and getting the meal he wanted, he went to a more distant Subway and ordered the exact same thing as he did last week, despite disliking the bread. O-Steve isn’t crazy – he’s loyal. He didn’t want to jinx his beloved Vikings.

Tuesday night, the Monroe County Civic Theater’s production of “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” premiered at The Cinemat, 123 S. Walnut St. Although the rain might have prevented more people from coming out to see the play, it went on without a hitch, and was a wonderfully produced tale of what happens when the dual personalities of a person fight for power.

What is art?

The first time I heard those enchanting lyrics, “Watch me crank dat Soulja Boy, then Superman dat ho,” I was drawn to an obvious conclusion that a lot of us see about modern rap – that it is self-righteous, nihilistic and misogynistic. But for a reason I couldn’t explain at the time the song was first released, I downloaded the song and couldn’t stop listening to it, often closing the curtains in order to perfect the moves that go along with Soulja Boy’s smash hit.

Is Cooper serious?

After reading Chase Cooper’s Oct. 17 column “Jeri for first lady,” I couldn’t help but wonder if he’s actually a sane person in disguise, posing as this parodic, right-wing nut job. Are we really supposed to think that a supposedly serious journalist would resort to ad hominem attacks against politician’s spouses in a column? To what end does it serve?
