IU Chamber Orchestra performs tonight

At 8 p.m., the Jacobs School of Music Chamber Orchestra will perform in IU’s Auer Hall under the baton of Principle Guest Conductor Uriel Segal. On the program is the Overture “Il matrimonio segreto,” by Domenico Cimarosa, an orchestra version of Giuseppe Verdi’s String Quartet in E Minor and the Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 37, by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Woman reports rape at weekend party

A 21-year-old woman told Bloomington Police Department officers Monday that she was raped Sunday night at a party. The victim told officers that she was with friends when she went to a party with a couple of men, BPD Sgt. Jeff Canada said, reading from a police report. She told officers that she remembers taking her shoes off at the party, having a couple of drinks and then waking up at her friend’s house on the other side of town, Canada said. The victim said she realized she was raped after she found “unknown substances” on her body, Canada said. She went to the emergency room to get a rape kit test, Canada said. Officer Stephanie Barnes is still investigating the case.

Free UPS service to ‘forgotten places’

Shopping during the holiday season can get expensive enough without having to factor in the cost of shipping the item overseas. However, thanks to a new service provided by the UPS store located at 2452 S. Walnut St., customers such as sophomore Kristen Jones won’t have to worry about shipping costs when preparing packages for her brother and boyfriend, who both serve in the military.

Collins celebrates seven days of sex

Sex Week at the Collins Living-Learning Center kicked off Sunday with a screening of “Kinsey,” a movie about the famous IU sex researcher. The week’s sex-related festivities will continue until Monday.

The IU men’s tennis team will conclude its fall season this weekend at the Big Ten Singles Championship against some of the nation’s best. Up to 16 of the nation’s top 125 men’s tennis players will be in action this weekend at the tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the Hoosiers are hoping to end the fall season on a high note.

IU club tennis competes well in Wisconsin

LOS ANGELES – David Mamet found an immediate outlet for his creativity during the Hollywood writers strike. In a cartoon published Tuesday on the op-ed page of the Los Angeles Times, Mamet played the labor dispute for laughs, appearing to lampoon Writers Guild of America strikers.

Beauty of human body is subject of artist’s new exhibit

Crude humor finds laughs at Buskirk

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater overflowed with people wanting to see the sold-out Comedians of Comedy show, featuring Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn and Doug Benson on Tuesday night. What is Art?

This past Saturday, I spent the day walking around Clinton, Iowa, knocking on doors and talking to the people about election politics. The purpose of this process, called canvassing, is to relate issues that each individual is concerned about to the candidate you are promoting. It sounds cult-like, I know, but the process of bringing politics to people one-on-one has been one of the most crucial elements of winning an election, and, surprisingly enough, has been a fundamental by-product of art throughout the ages.
