Red Cross of Bloomington needs donors

The American Red Cross of Bloomington, 1600 W. Third St., will be holding a blood drive Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at College Mall, 2894 E. Third St. The blood drive was originally supposed to be held at the Army Reserve Center, 520 S. Woodscrest Dr. on May 19. Tammy Myers, a representative at the Army Reserve Center, said they are trying to schedule another blood drive for their center.

Storms knock down trees; damages Notre Dame church

SOUTH BEND – More than 20,000 people were still without power Wednesday morning as northern Indiana recovered from powerful thunderstorms that killed one man and damaged several buildings including the University of Notre Dame’s Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

Man slaps girlfriend, flees on a bike Tuesday

Man reports being scammed on eBay

A man reported to the BPD he was scammed on eBay.com. The man found a 2005 Toyota Tacoma for $9,000 on the eBay Web site, BPD Det. Sergeant Jeff Canada said, reading from a police report.

2 men report shooting at Citgo gas station

Antwaun L. Hopkins, 21, of 1019 N. Summit St., was arrested May 13 on charges of criminal recklessness, a Class-D felony, said Sgt. Mick Williams of the Bloomington Police Department, reading from a police report.

'Def Poetry' Saves Hip-hop

While I am a huge fan of music, hip-hop has always been my favorite genre. And it is a big genre where there is room for a Snoop Dogg and a Lil' John as well as Def Poetry. If Mos and Talib are the Bob Dylan and Neil Young of hip-hop then Lil John is the Motley Crue. There is a place for both the Crue and Lil' John in their respective genres, but artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dylan and Young wield the responsibility in their genres, respectively.

Rodeo Ruby Love: B

The seventh release from the local label, Crossroads of America, brings about a refreshing, catchy and introspective EP from Rodeo Ruby Love. Following the release of their lo-fi debut, Your Love has Made Everything Beautiful, RRL has overhauled the production values, but retained the cutesy Midwestern flair that made their first effort so enjoyable. Though What Lonliness Can Do to You clocks in at less than 20 minutes, it is a solid 20 minutes that shows an increase in focus and maturity from the band.

Bone Thugs 'N' Harmony: B-

Bone Thugs are surprisingly fresh in a sea of posers and money-hungry thugs. They rap about the same cliched, deeply poetic subject matter of commercial rap (Bitches and hos, 40s, gold chains, getting shot and living, rims, cribs, the streets, thug life, hustlin', etc.) but do it well. Bone Thugs 'N' Harmony are three charming young men who have been rapping in the "game" since '94. With member Flesh-N-Bone in jail, the group has dwindled down to a trio. Strength and Loyalty is their newest effort and first on Interscope imprint Full Surface.
