Last week, the IU football team made a mockery out of its season opener
against Western Kentucky, a team just recently inducted into college
football’s top tier. On Saturday, the Hoosiers host a team that didn’t
quite make the cut.

Our Alaskan correspondent, and former IDSer, Dan click was able to do what very few regular readers of Inside Pitch were able to do -- see Jake Dunning play ball this summer.

No matter how imperfect or seemingly impervious a football team can be,
there will always be questions heading into the team’s season opener
whose answers will dictate success.

If you can't make it out to Memorial Stadium this weekend, this is where you'll be able to keep track of your Hoosiers.

The ever-intrepid reporter Michael Sanserino is our Colts beat reporter/columnist. Mike made it up the most recent Horses game against the Bills. As you all know, the best wideout -- I suppose this is where I'm required to insert 'arguably' -- in IU history now plays for Buffalo. But Hardy has been dinged up all through camp and, unfortunately, the Fort Wayne native didn't make it to Indy for the game. Mike gathered up some quotes on Hardy anywho, and here's what he found out.

The Hoosiers' defense was bolstered Thursday morning when the University announced Florida transfer, Jerimy Finch, may compete this season.

This comes from my favorite Yankee blog (though, admittedly there isn't much in the way of competition) Nomaas.org/draft. Lane Meyer has an extensive interview with Damon Oppenheimer, the Yankees vice president of scouting.

Blake Monar, Hoosier recruit and Yankee draftee, threw a complete game 2-hitter in the Connie Mack World Series last night. Great news for Blake with the deadline for the Yankees to offer him a deal quickly approaching.

The Big Ten's Web site had a neat idea leading up to the Olympics by featuring former conference baseballers who participated in the games. Leading the list was former IU star, Mickey Morandini. The write up (link for full) on Mickey follows.

7:55 p.m. -- According to the Indy Star's Terry Hutchens, Indiana and athletic director Rick Greenspan have appealed the NCAA ruling to make transfer Jeremy Finch sit this season.

Nothing earth shattering, sounds like James Hardy will be fine, but I wanted to post this because it is nice to see the former IU wideout is getting some love from his new coach, Dick Jauron.

I've gathered up some interesting links on IU football which are definitely worth checking out.

The exact same post exists on the Under the Rock blog, but I wanted to throw it up here to find out what the Hoosier baseball faithful think of the committee. Are you upset there is no direct baseball representation? What actions do you want the new AD to take to better the baseball program at IU?
(08/01/08 9:27pm)
IU President Michael McRobbie has created a 13-member search team to name Indiana's new athletic director, the University announced today.
