Former Alabama forward Aiden Sherrell commits to Indiana men’s basketball

Indiana men’s basketball received a commitment from former University of Alabama forward Aiden Sherrell, per On3’s Joe Tipton. The 6-foot-11 sophomore is the Hoosiers’ fifth portal addition, following commitments from guards Jaeden MustafDarren Harris and Markus Burton and center Samet Yiğitoğlu.

Sherrell, a former McDonald’s All-American originally from Detroit, was 247Sports' No. 32 overall prospect in the class of 2024. He spent two seasons at Alabama, where he occupied a starting role in his sophomore season.

After averaging 8.7 minutes per game in a reserve role as a freshman, Sherrell started in all 34 of his appearances in 2025-26, playing for 23.9 minutes per contest. He led the SEC with 76 total blocks while adding 11.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Both marks were more than double his freshman averages.

He posted a season-high 26 points and a double-double in the Crimson Tide’s double overtime win over then-No. 20 University of Arkansas on Feb. 18. He recorded eight blocks on two occasions, including Alabama’s loss to then-No. 1 University of Arizona on Dec. 13.

While it’s not a staple of his game, Sherrell is also a capable 3-point shooter. He drained 27 longballs on 33.8% efficiency in 2025-26. He scored 20 or more points in four games throughout the season and averaged 11.7 points and seven rebounds per game in the 2026 NCAA Tournament during Alabama’s run to the Sweet 16.

Standing 6-foot-11, Sherrell is taller than any Hoosier on head coach Darian DeVries’ first year roster. He adds to a talented transfer class that will join three four-star recruits in guard Prince-Alexander Moody and forwards Vaughn Karvala and Trevor Manhertz alongside returning freshman forward Trent Sisley.

DeVries’ first transfer class featured seven players from non-power conference schools. This year, each of the Cream and Crimson’s first five additions come from a power conference team. With a new approach, the Hoosiers aim to build on an 18-14 season and make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the DeVries era.
