The Hoosiers ended their 2010 season in a 15-5 loss today against their in-state rivals. The loss both eliminated the Hoosiers from the Big Ten Tournament and marked the last game for seniors Micheal Earley, Sterling Mack, Tyler Rodgers, and Chris Squires.
Helio Castroneves' pit crew won the 2010 IZOD Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge at the IMS today. The pit crew has won a record amount of Pit Stop Challenges.
Safety Jerimy Finch will not be returning to the Hoosiers for the 2010 season. It is reported that he will pursue other options outside of the program.
The Firestone Freedom 500 Indy Lights race is a quick 40-lap race, but it started off pretty exciting, especially after practice finished with no crashes. However, in the first lap the polesitter, Pippa Minn was knocked out of the race in an accident with Jeff Simmons. Pippa Mann was the first woman to start on the pole at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The IU women's basketball team has signed 5'8'' point guard Alisha Goodwin from Jefferson College. Goodwin had previously played at St. Louis University before playing at Jefferson College. With the Billikens she averaged 6.8 points per game. At Jefferson College she averaged 12.9 points a game. Jefferson College made it to the NJCAA Championships in the 2009-2010 season, but lost to Gulf Coast Community College Commodores 83-61.
Practice for the 94th Indy 500 took place for an hour this morning with the drivers turning 1254 laps. Here is the order of the fastest drivers on the practice:
The Hoosiers now face an elimination game against Purdue at 12:05, after losing to Minnesota last night.
Two Hoosiers qualified for the NCAA Championship meet last night. Faith Sherrill in the shot put and Jeff Coover in the pole vault. Sherrill posted the second best throw on the day, and will also look to qualify in the hammer throw and the discus. Coover qualified for his fourth national meet, and his second outdoors.
Tyler Rodger's catch in yesterday's game against Northwestern was picked as the top play of Sports Center's Top 10 plays. Check the video out here.
Jeff Howard, the 6'8'' 215-pound center from Westfield will walk-on for the Hoosiers in 2010. Howard averaged 16.8 points, 12.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in his senior season. Follow the IDS for more coverage of Howard's decision.
Nineteen-year-old Saavedra, driving for William Rast racing — a team Justin Timberlake sponsors — posted the slowest speed and was in 33rd place with only about an hour left of quals. But after a crash resulted in back pain, Saavedra was taken to get an MRI, and it looked as if his hope of qualifying was over.
Linebacker Jammie Kirlew is now officially a Denver Bronco, according to nationalfootballpost.com. He signed a 4 year deal, worth $1.84 million and received a signing bonus of around $50,000
Helio Castroneves won the pole position Saturday for the 2010 Indianapolis 500, with an average speed of 227.970 miles per hour. He even put up one lap at 228 miles per hour, the fastest lap since 2006. His 2010 qualifying speeds were faster than last year’s qualifying speed by 3.1 miles per hour.
Six members of the women’s team earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the spring semester. Hoosiers earning this distinction include junior Danilsa Andujar, sophomore Jasmine Davis, senior Jori Davis, junior Lindsay Enterline, junior Georgie Jones and now-graduate Andrea McGuirt.
Sophomore left fielder Alex Dickerson has been invited to the 2010 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Trials, and was named one of 25 semifinalists for the Dick Howser Award. The Dick Howser award is given to the top collegiate baseball player by the National College Baseball Writers of America. The winner will be announced during the first game of the College World Series, June 10.
Kelsey Campbell, Lachlan Ferguson and Emily Kasavana were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 First Team. Here is a little more about the two's academic honors and athletic achievements.

Junior Lachlan Ferguson is the 2010 Ohio Valley regional nominee for the ITA/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award. The award is given to a men's player who exemplifies character, excellent academics, sportsmanship, and success on the tennis court.
