Indiana football landed 12 transfers between its victories in the Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl. Even with a College Football Playoff run, the Hoosiers began composing a top transfer portal class.
The Hoosiers continued adding to their class ahead of the national championship, as former Montana State University cornerback Carson Williams committed to the Cream and Crimson on Sunday, according to On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett’s X post.
Williams is coming off a national championship in his own right, as the Bobcats won the Football Championship Subdivision national championship Jan. 5. The rising redshirt sophomore has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Williams arrived in Bozeman, Montana, as a three-star recruit who was ranked the 142nd-best cornerback nationally. He played in four games in 2024, preserving his redshirt.
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Williams totaled 46 tackles, nine pass breakups and one forced fumble across 16 games in 2025. The Houston native earned a spot on the FCS Freshman All-America Team.
Williams is the 13th transfer to commit to the Hoosiers in the 2026 portal cycle, and the seventh addition on defense.
Williams could contend to replace defensive back D’Angelo Ponds should he opt to enter the NFL draft. Redshirt junior defensive back Jamari Sharpe, who starts alongside Ponds, is slated to return next season.
Williams joins former Wisconsin safety Preston Zachman and former University of Cincinnati safety Jiquan Sanks as transfers in the Hoosiers’ secondary in 2026.
