It’s just about that time — back to school! With the start of classes quickly approaching, there’s no better way to prepare than by updating your old study playlist. Listening to music while hitting the books can at the very least make your experience more enjoyable and it can sometimes even help with focus. I find myself looking forward to my study sessions when I have a solid playlist to accompany me.

There’s a huge green vinyl case that sits across from my bed, next to the record player. My grandpa used to lug this exact case from college to home each summer and share his new albums with the kids in town. My siblings and I have spent hours sitting on my floor, examining the stacks of records in his collection. Some of these albums are more than sixty years old, having been enjoyed by countless people before us over the years.

The independent lifestyle at college gives each of us the space to decide how much energy we want to invest in reducing our own impact on Earth. Becoming more sustainable doesn’t have to include any life-altering changes, but taking small steps can be a good way to start.

People make mood boards for interior design, wedding planning, outfit inspiration and even to help them set goals for a new year.

The Japanese House has returned to music after a four-year album hiatus. Amber Bain, the artist working under the moniker “the Japanese House,” is an indie electropop artist from Buckinghamshire, England. Her career began in 2012, when she signed with the music label Dirty Hit. Bain has since continued to develop her 80s-inspired, synth-heavy style, up to her most recent release.

Anyone can make a podcast. This explains how the podcast world is made up of millions of different shows, covering most topics that anyone could think of. No matter what the interest, there is likely a show about it, making a nearly endless space for learning. Podcasts can be a good break from music, and they are certainly a simple way to delve into new concepts and —at the most basic level— be entertained in a different way.

I was never a big fan of history class in grade school, but something about historic art and fashion trends has always fascinated me. In second grade, I checked out the same 500-page art history book every week. There was something captivating about the portraits in this book. Each allowed me to study the lives of people who lived decades and centuries before me. They gave the younger me a remarkably early awareness of how trends and beauty standards continue to change with time.
