IU Volleyball wins IU Adidas Classic

The Hoosiers (6-0) won all three of their games in the IU Adidas Classic at the University Gym. IU posts their second tournament title of the season on Saturday night with beating North Carolina State (5-1) in three sets (25-23, 25-19, 25-20). In the Hoosiers Home opener against Arkansas State (2-4), they had no problem dealing with the Red Wolves as they won in three sets (25-14, 25-13, 25-17). In the next match against Illinois State on Saturday, the Hoosiers won the first two sets, the Red Birds won the next two sets and the Hoosiers won the last set in comeback fashion (25-20, 25-20, 18-25, 20-25, 16-14). IU down 13-8 in the fifth set, the Red Birds needed only two points to win the match, but the Hoosiers didn't want to let this one go and scored eight of the final nine points to get their fifth win. IU earned three spots on the all tournament team, which included senior setter Ashley Benson, junior libero Caitlin Cox, and sophomore outside hitter Jordan Haverly. Tournament MVP was won again Benson, just like last weekend in Georgia. Benson hit .548 (39-5-62) for the weekend while averaging 1.91 blocks per set. Haverly followed closely with 36 kills, to go along with her team-best nine aces during the three-match stretch. Cox roamed the defensive backcourt, digging 4.55 balls per set for a weekend total of 50. The Hoosiers hit the road next week, heading to upstate New York for a tournament co-hosted by Niagara University and Canisius Colloge. IU will play four matches against Robert Morris, Colgate, Niagara and Bucknell on next Friday and Saturday.

So, IU beat Towson and now has a 16-day break. I wish school worked that way, sometimes. One week on, two weeks off.

As expected

The initial reports were correct. The Big Ten Conference on Tuesday announced its two football divisions that become effective at the beginning of the 2011 season when Nebraska joins the conference. The divisions, as most outlets reported, line up as follows (and, heavens, tell me the division names are only temporary): Division X -- Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin Division O -- Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern Conference officials also said traditional and trophy rivalries between schools in separate divisions (notably Ohio State and Michigan) will continue with yearly matchups.

Big Ten divisions to be announced tonight

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney will announce the Big Ten football divisions at 7 p.m. tonight on the Big Ten Network. ESPN.com is reporting the divisions will look like this: Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern and Minnesota Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Purdue and Illinois On the surface, this appears to be bad news for the Hoosiers.
