Saying goodbye to Bud
If you believe Andy Katz (and you probably should), it appears IU will withdraw its scholarship offer to Scott County's Bud Mackey no matter what happens on his Oct.

IU will "withdraw the commitment to Mackey, regardless of the outcome of the case," reports ESPN.com's Andy Katz in his blog. Katz cites a source "close to the situation." NCAA rules prohibit University officials from making comment on recruits who have not signed a letter of intent, so I am curious who Katz's source is... Thoughts on this new development?
Members of the Hoosier football team need nicknames. I think they've got to that point. And i'm not talking about lame nicknames like, "MT" for Marcus Thigpen or "G-Mid" for Greg Middleton - Nicknames like that are both lazy and dumb.
IU coach Bill Lynch informed the media during his weekly press conference that Terrance Turner is out for the remainder of the season.
I think this might help add to the discussion. In July, the Hoops Report ran a transcription of an interview with Mackey.
The Lexington Herald Leader has more information about Bud Mackey's arrest. You can read it here. The newspaper reports that Mackey was found carrying 1.6 grams of rock cocaine, or crack, in his shoe.

I just came back from my Sports Communications class (ugh, night class) with a little bit of relevant football information. Freshman wide receiver Terrance Turner, who started in place of suspended wideout James Bailey last week, is still on crutches after injuring his right knee against Iowa. Turner was unable to tell me about his injury due to IU Athletic's regulations.
I know I promised a Michigan preview over the weekend, but my time got taken up by the Bud Mackey situation and transcribing an interview Mike and I had with Coach Sampson last week.
I come from a state that loves its football. No, not Texas - though I do love America. In the western suburbs of Chicago, football is everything.
The following was a comment in the previous blog, But I think it warrants its own seperate post... David Says: October 1st, 2007 at 3:14 pm e As an IU alum (83) it is very disheartening to see the lack of support at home games.
Are we not doing our jobs? Have a question for Bill Lynch? I'll make you a deal. Every Tuesday during Lynch's weekly press conference I will ask him things that anyone who reads this blog wants to know.
Game Summary I've been at IU for three years now, and only one other time have I seen a dominating performance by this team comparable to the showing they displayed Saturday afternoon.
According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, 2008 IU commit Bud Mackey was released from jail this morning on a $10,000 bond.
Back from the press conferences. I think there is a team-wide consensus that this is IU's biggest win since...the last time they played Iowa. But on a more serious note, the Hoosiers really did play a complete game.
This just in... IU Director of Media Relations J.D. Campbell just handed us a release informing us that junior wide receiver James Bailey has been suspended for today's game "due to an unspecified violation of team rules"
With the bad news surrounding Bud Mackey (see below), here is some good news for the Hoosier faithful regarding the upcoming season: D.J.
2008 IU commit Bud Mackey was arrested today on charges of possession of crack cocaine according to reports from channel LEX18 in Lexington. If the charges are true (remember the whole innocent until proven guilty dogma we live by in American society) it is really a sad story.
You can see for youself what the best in the business Matt Dollinger's prediction is for Saturday's game. I disagree with him and think Indiana is going to bounce back and really shock the Hawkeyes - and the rest of the Big Ten, because it is a great matchup for them. How about you Hoosiernation? Is the offensive line going to give Lewis time to find Hardy, Bailey, Means and Fischer? Is Iowa's defense too good?
Here is a quick scouting report on Jin Soo Kim from our summer blogger, Matt Dollinger. Matt had the chance to see Kim in action this summer, playing with 2008 IU commit Devin Ebanks on Team Takeover.
