The Lexington Herald Leader has more information about Bud Mackey's arrest. You can read it here.

The newspaper reports that Mackey was found carrying 1.6 grams of rock cocaine, or crack, in his shoe. The Herald Leader also reports Mackey told school administrators he was delivering the crack to an unidentified person.

I'm no legal expert, but this seems to be pretty damning. Most people accused of drug trafficking defend they merely possessed the drug and had no intent to distribute. But if Mackey told administrators he was delivering the drug, I am not sure that defense exists any longer. He could plea to a lesser charge if he cooperates with authorities and tells them who supplied him.

It is uncertain if Mackey will ever play at IU. I think it is unlikely that he ever does. But should he? If Mackey serves his debt to society and is still eligible, should IU give him a second chance? Or does the University cut ties altogether?
