Despite the late effort, an inspirational season ends on a disappointing note for the Hoosiers. The Oklahoma State Cowboys clobbered the Hoosiers this evening, 49-27.
With so many Hoosiers in town, there was only one way for IU's fans to send off their football team before the big game. The Walk.
As the players did their Tempe version of The Walk, there was only one non-Hoosier player who could rival the popularity of the team - Jane Hoeppner. I had the opportunity to briefly talk with Mrs. Hoeppner on our way towards the stadium and she had nothing but positive things to say about the team and the Hoosier faithful who made the trip. "We've had interaction with (the team)" Hoeppner said.
In the Arizona desert, a sea of red emerged. Hoosier football fans from all over the country have traveled to Tempe to watch something that has not been done in 14 years - witness their school and alma mater play in a bowl game. "I booked my hotel the day I found out they were going to the bowl game," said Jeff Garfield, a 2004 IU alumnus. Prior to the Insight Bowl kickoff, fans began the day tailgating in various parking lots around the stadium.
