The 2018 period drama “Cold War” will screen 7 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 1 at IU Cinema.

Set in 1950s Cold War-era Poland, Germany, Yugoslavia and France, the story follows a musical director who discovers a young singer and falls in love despite ideological challenges.

The film explores their love story over the following decades and is loosely based on the lives of director Pawel Pawlikowski’s parents.

IU Cinema will show the film in Polish, French, German, Russian, Italian and Croatian with English subtitles. It has a 92 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“With a brilliantly stark visual aesthetic to match its lean narrative, ‘Cold War’ doesn’t waste a moment of its brief running time — and doesn’t skimp on its bittersweet emotional impact,” according to Rotten Tomatoes.

The film won the Best Director award at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and also received three nominations at the 91st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film Best Director and Best Cinematography.

Tickets start at $4 for students and $7 for non-students.
