Cap and trade

By a slim margin of 219-212, the House of Representatives passed the infamous “Cap and Trade” bill on June 26.

In order to pass the bill, Democrats had to give several incentives for companies to come up with cleaner, greener energy. These incentives, however, will not be sought after because CEOs suddenly develop consciences.

Don’t be fooled: The seemingly “reasonable” limits the bill sets for companies was only put in place for the bill to get passed. The amounts of carbon dioxide companies will be allowed to emit dramatically decreases as time passes, and the companies will be forced into developing green energy or paying through the nose for carbon credits.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of companies innovating greener energy.
It will happen eventually, but government imposition on free market principles in the case of cap and trade will allow countries like China to dominate the market of imported goods manufactured using coal. Our country’s arrogance will eventually cause our own energy to become more expensive than the energy we import.

I haven’t even mentioned the worst part about this bill. Do you remember when Barack Obama promised there would be no tax increases for families making less than $250,000?

Listen closely: When companies have to pay more to develop and deliver things like electricity, steel and gas, the costs of these things goes up – it’s Economics 101. It becomes only a matter of time before people at these companies start getting laid off, and guess who makes up the majority of energy jobs?

Well, it sure isn’t tree-huggers or politicians.

It’s the hard-working, red-state, middle-income Americans who can’t afford an increase in their monthly electric bill.
