Columnist hateful, hypocritical

I am at home on vacation and I'm sort of enjoying it but I always check the IDS web site to see what's happening on campus. And what is one thing I see happening? I see Duncan Mitchel writing hate filled rhetoric. I have read his column many times and I respect his right to a viewpoint, but why does he always have to throw in cheapshots about Christians, or organized religion in general, Republicans, the rich, etc. This man is supposedly championing the cause of gay rights. He brings light to how gays are discriminated against. I understand that. I agree they are and I agree that people in general need to be more tolerable. However, with that said he needs to be more tolerable as well. It's obvious he dislikes, dare I say, hates, Republicans, Christians, rich people, probably even cute little bunny rabbits, but I digress. He said he wants people to be more tolerable, but why should I show him tolerance when he shows no tolerance to the groups he does not like? If he wants more tolerance maybe he should be more tolerant. If he isn't willing to be more tolerant than maybe the IDS should hire someone that is the complete antithesis to provide the opposing viewpoint. I just don't think it's fair, nor right, let alone ethical for someone to continually spread hate speech about certain groups only to stand on a soapbox and preach tolerance. It's hypocritical and it proves how ignorant he is. It's not just the organized religions, Republicans, rich people, or straight people. He proves anyone can be ignorant and spread the word of hate, or if he thinks the word hate is too strong, the severe dislike.
