'Swimfan' leads weekend box office

LOS ANGELES -- "Swimfan," a creepy thriller about a teenage seductress who stalks a high school swim star, took the weekend box office by surprise, earning $12.4 million to finish in first place, according to studio estimates Sunday.

In between the crashes of thunder, guitarist Steve Sobiech tried to decide whether to play or be electrocuted Saturday night. Finally nature calmed down, and Sobiech began to play. Let me say it now, he knows how to work wonders out of his instruments. It wasn't anything flashy that caught my attention. Rather, it was Sobiech's soft touch -- his ability to gently coax the subtle tones from his guitar -- that intrigued me. It was almost like there was acoustic sound coming from his electric guitar, and that's certainly a sound I can get used to.

Bloomington Police Department's public information officer, Captain Joseph Qualters said Sunday BPD had still not seen the letter that was sent to the department last Monday by the IU Student Association. The letter criticizes BPD for what IUSA claims is a growing number of unfounded arrests of students in and around the bars late at night.
