Pop artist actually writes own lyrics

Let me just air this right in the open. This album may not be what you think you need to hear. It may not even be the kind of style you normally enjoy. But don't let your biases against radio pop turn you against what is some of the best pop music I've heard in a long time. In the vein of fellow British artists Craig David and Robbie Williams, what Bedingfield has done with this album is bring some innovation to a tired genre.\nI can't say I liked every song. If I never hear his song "James Dean" again in my lifetime, I'll be forever grateful. The lyrics are so inane, they make the Backstreet Boys look like real poets.\nBut unlike some of those boy bands we've heard far too much about, this guy can sing. It doesn't bother me in the least to say I enjoyed his ballad, "If You're Not the One," which shows just what kind of hooks he can hit you with, even when he's taking it a bit slower.\nAnd he shows he can pump up the volume and the expectations with his exceptionally tight hip-hop-tinged "Blown it Again." The current radio single happens to be the title track, and along with the rest of the songs I've mentioned, it shows how innovative Bedingfield can be. He took a mid-'90s techno track and souped it up with driving vocals and exceptionally catchy grooves.\nBedingfield may not be the most original thing to hit pop music, but he sure does have the skills to make it in this business. In fact, how many pop artists today can you name who write and produce all their music without it sounding utterly stupid?\nBedingfield does all this and more, creating an album that is a crisp and clean recording that cleanly and simply shows his talent as an artist. He's got me hooked.
