Rocketing into our hearts

Power-pop outfit A Rocket to the Moon surpasses its past efforts with the full-length debut, “On Your Side,” mostly because the act grasps the concept of playing to its listeners’ emotions.

‘Wild Things,’ you make my heart sing – somewhat

·

The most memorable aspect of the “Where the Wild Things Are,” the 1963 children’s book written by Maurice Sendak, is Sendak’s own illustrations. It is stunning but simple – giant, yellow-eyed, hairy monsters with sharp claws romping in the wilderness. Sendak uses few words in telling the story.

Beach Boy-like pop sunshine

·

While most of their peers have drenched themselves in neons and synths, Sherwood’s Southern California-Beach Boys-esque pop sheen has put them on a whole new level since 2005’s “Sing, But Keep Going.” And with their latest, “QU,” the band only improves that sound, resulting in one of 2009’s better pure pop releases.

"Law Abiding Citizen"

‘Citizen’ is no mastermind

·

So far this year, Gerard Butler has been unconvincing as a journalist, a video game avatar and now a mastermind murderer.

'Gold and Green' brings holiday season

·

Albums like “Twice the Speed of Life” and “Enjoy the Ride” catapulted country duo Sugarland to superstar status. So after making award-winning albums and touring the country to sold-out crowds, what’s a band to do? Well, like most superstar artists, they decided to make a holiday album.

summerset

You’ll probably love this

Though The Summer Set’s sound isn’t all that original, it sure is catchy as this Scottsdale, Ariz.  act brings a little bit of summer to the listener – even in the middle of October.

"Paranormal Activity"

‘Blair Witch’ of this decade it is not

·

Unlike “The Blair Witch Project,” which captured the claustrophobia of panicked behavior under the guise of being “real,” “Paranormal Activity” fails to live up to the sensational hype we have been hearing all month.

Five For Fighting

No fighting the charm of Five for Fighting

·

Five for Fighting is best known for catchy piano melodies and John Ondrasik’s melodic voice as found on mainstream hits “100 years” and “Superman.” Just like past albums, “Slice” features key piano work that makes the songs unforgettable.  “Slice” features a better flow than previous Five for Fighting albums, but the songs still share those strong, upbeat and reflective messages on efforts like “Note to the Unknown Soldier” and “Hope.”

"The Stepfather"

“Stepfather” slashes his way into viewers’ hearts

·

To all stepfathers out there: Don’t let your family see this movie. Screen Gems’ “The Stepfather,” a remake of the 1987 cult film of the same name, stars Dylan Walsh as David Harris, a sociopathic killer whose MO is conning his way into a family, only to kill them at the first sign of trouble.

Me want her.

·

Boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. Boy pulls out his club, hits girl on the head and drags her into his cave to have his way.
