A Bloomington man has agreed to plead guilty to killing a Purdue University counselor he found in his estranged wife's home in October 2008.
John R. Moore III was scheduled for a trial Nov. 11 on a murder charge. A plea agreement Moore submitted Tuesday says he'll instead plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Voluntary manslaughter carries a sentence of up to 50 years, while murder carries up to 60 years.
The plea agreement must be accepted by a judge before it's valid.
Moore was charged in the Oct. 19, 2008 death of Steven R. Morris, a staff psychologist at Purdue's Counseling and Psychological Services. Authorities say Moore barged into his estranged wife's bedroom and shot Morris in the head.
