Senior Zach Mayhew joined the IU track and field team in one of IU Coach Ron Helmer’s early years in Bloomington, a time when Helmer said the recruitment plan consisted more of finding good kids ready to work and less of finding pure talent.

After a pair of lopsided home victories, combined with Duke’s loss to Maryland on Saturday, IU retained its No. 1 spot in the AP poll released Monday and returned to the summit of the Coaches poll.

Softball sweeps Georgia Tech Classic

The IU softball team swept the field Feb. 15-17 at the Georgia Tech Classic in Atlanta, marking the team’s second weekend of play of the 2013 season.

Hoosiers find way to win three of four games

After starting the season with a 3-6 record, the No. 12 IU water polo team put together its first weekend of play with more wins than losses. The Hoosiers were 3-1 in the Bison Invitational and improved their record to 6-7.

IU improved its overall team record to an even 9-9 on the season after six straight losses, with 33-12 wins against Lindenwood-Belleville and SIUE and a shutout dual against Knox College, with a final score of 45-0.

Hoosiers fall short against 2 SEC opponents

On Friday, IU lost to No. 25 Tennessee, and the Hoosiers fell to Kentucky on Sunday. The Hoosiers were tied 3-3 heading into the final singles match against both the Volunteers and Wildcats, but were unable to pull off a victory on either occasion.
