Team undefeated in the Big Ten

The men's soccer team will face two conference opponents on the road this weekend. Today, IU (7-2-0, 3-0) travels to the University of Wisconsin to battle the Badgers (6-4-1, 0-1). Sunday, they face the Northwestern Wildcats (0-8-2, 0-4) in Evanston, Ill. When the No. 6 Hoosiers travel to Northwestern, they will find a Wildcat team hungry for a win. The Wildcats have yet to win a game this year and have never beaten the Hoosiers, who have outscored them 87-6 in their 17 meetings. Northwestern returns only six starters from last year's squad.

Not so unsung heroes

Play this trivia game. Name five starters on the offensive line. Give up? They are junior tackles Bobby Brandt, Enoch DeMar and A.C. Myler; sophomore guard Anthony Oakley; senior center Craig Osika. If that was impossible, learn them. Quick. Because these players were key to the Hoosiers offensive stomping of Wisconsin last Saturday. More specifically, they helped Big Ten Player of the Week senior running back Levron Williams to a record-setting day. But this group has not let the new attention interrupt their modesty.

Women look to defend titles

First the women's basketball team wants to enjoy itself tonight at Midnight Madness, then it's down to the task at hand, which is to improve from last season, when the Hoosiers finished 20-11 and earned a post-season berth to the National Invitational Tournament. "It's kind of like a party, then it's business right away," senior forward Erin McGinnis said. "Our expectations are very high. We want to come out and make the tournament, and be competitors for the Big Ten championship."

Men's squad starts anew

It has been more than six months since the Hoosiers suffered their first round loss to Kent State in the NCAA Tournament. But Mike Davis has just gotten over the loss. "I'm over it now. It took a long time," he said. "We should have won that game. That was probably one of the poorest teams we played all season. "The Kent State (loss) was an embarrassment."

Seniors leading season more headline

With a 3-1-1 start in conference play, the women's soccer team is off to a strong start in the Big Ten, and are showing they are ready to compete at the national level. At 6-2-1 (3-1-1) the Hoosiers are currently in fourth place in the Big Ten and ranked No. 23 in the country. Last year, they finished 10th in the conference.

Williams wins Big Ten honors

Levron Williams knew after the Wisconsin victory that he'd had a career game. Teammates congratulated him. Reporters talked about records he'd tied and broken. Coaches praised his efforts. The rest of the college football world took notice Monday.

Hoosiers finish 7th in Xavier Provident Invitational

Freshman Jeff Overton shot a career low 54-hole score with a four-over par 217 in the Xavier Provident Invitational at the Grizzly Tournament Course in Mason, Ohio. Overton's efforts, which included a one-under par 70 in Tuesday's final round, were only enough to lead the Hoosiers to a seventh place finish in the 19-team tournament.

Hoosiers finish fourth at Legends Shootout match

The Hoosiers completed their third and final round at the Legends Shootout in Franklin, Ind., Tuesday, finishing in fourth place. It is the Hoosiers' second fourth-place finish in as many tournaments so far this season. Michigan placed first with an 877 three-day score, while Wisconsin and Kent State finished second and third, respectively.

Young rugby team confident, 'very committed'

Women's participation declining

Hoosiers strong at Invitational

The IU men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Louisville Fall Invitational Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Four Hoosiers saw action on the final day of the event. Junior Zach Held and freshman Jon Magnes both advanced to the semifinals of the Flight "A" draw. Sixth-seeded Held was defeated by top-seeded senior Gustav Pousette of Kentucky, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

Field hockey team drops two

Northwestern spoiled IU's Big Ten home opener as the Wildcats defeated the Hoosier field hockey team 4-1 Friday. Despite equaling Northwestern in shots at seven and getting four more penalty corners than the Wildcats, the Hoosiers couldn't find the back of the net more than once.

Freshman nets hat trick in win

On a cold day in Ann Arbor, Mich., freshman forward Mike Ambersley was red hot. He became the first IU player to post a hat trick this season, tallying all three of the Hoosiers (7-2-0, 3-0 Big Ten) goals in their shut out of the Michigan Wolverines.

Runners prepare for Notre Dame meet
