The IU women's golf team finished its season with a disappointing 16th place finish at the NCAA Central Regional Saturday at the Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.
IU Basketball coach Mike Davis was honored Saturday evening with the Male Coach of the Year award by the Black Coaches Association (BCA) at the Hyatt Regency of Indianapolis. Davis was nominated for the award after he proved to be the most successful first-year head coach in the 101-year history of IU men's basketball, according to a press release from the BCA.
Three IU coaches were released Tuesday after the Athletic Department reviewed the progress of their respective sports teams. Women's soccer coach Joe Kelley, men's swimming and diving coach Kris Kirchner and softball coach Diane Stephenson were dismissed because their teams were not achieving the success that is expected at IU, Director of Athletics Michael McNeely said.

BOSTON (AP) - The NHL suspended Boston defenseman Kyle McLaren on Sunday for rest of the Bruins' playoff series against Montreal for the hit that sent Richard Zednik to the hospital.
Regulation wasn't enough time to determine the Hoosiers' fate. Neither was four overtimes. It took a fifth and final overtime Saturday to decide who would move on the the Eastern Championships title game. And the team that moved on was Michigan. The rival Wolverines won 8-7 victory, and IU ended up taking third at the Eastern Championships with a victory over Princeton this past weekend.
The men's and women's track and field teams completed the first of several big weekends to come in the next month. This weekend's meets were marred with such bad weather at West Lafayette that the Boilermaker Open was cancelled after only a few events.

The IU men's baseball team could not get its bats going in cold Minnesota as it fell 8-1 and 4-2 in what was supposed to be a four-game series. Saturday's doubleheader was canceled because of inclement weather, and the two teams salvaged the final game Sunday.

Senior Milan Rakvica won at the No. 1 position for IU, beating the Wolverines' Henry Beam 7-6(2), 6-4.

Going into its final weekend of Big Ten competition, the IU softball team is still in search of its first win in conference play. The Hoosiers play host to both Penn State and Ohio State for two games apiece this weekend.
