Wrestling loses to OSU

One of the tougher road trips facing the IU wrestling team this season will come to an end tonight in Ann Arbor, Mich. when the Hoosiers face the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines at 7 p.m. at Michigan's Cliff Keen Arena.

IU takes title shot

The road to a regular season Great Midwest Hockey League championship will be an uphill one for IU, but the Hoosiers are ready to climb it. IU (12-7-1, 2-3-1 GMHL) will begin the home stretch of the GMHL season this weekend with a pair of road games against Ferris State University and Michigan State University.

Striving to stay perfect

The Hoosiers' fast success and 3-0 start so far this season has surprised even themselves. After stunning both Notre Dame and Middle Tennessee State this past weekend, the men's tennis team's confidence level must be high. "We knew we had a very good chance of beating them," sophomore Ryan Recht said of the team's matches against Notre Dame and Middle Tennessee State. "We went in with the intention of winning."

Coach looking to rebuild tradition

A team that once won six National Championships and 23 Big Ten titles only finished 32nd overall in last year's NCAA's. But that has not discouraged first year IU men's swimming coach Ray Looze in the least. Looze accepted the job looking ahead to the future of the program.

Sprinter off to a fast start

The No. 14 track and field team has struggled in the early part of the indoor season with team mentality, Coach Marshall Goss said. But for junior sprinter Ryan Sarbinoff, taking the team to a Big Ten Chamionship is one of his goals, he said.

Track team heads to Illinois

Saturday the No. 19 men's track and field team travels to Illinois for their third dual meet in as many weeks. The team cruised to victory in their first meet at Michigan but fell to No. 13 Purdue and Ohio State last weekend. Coach Marshall Goss said he expects a challenge similar to last weekend. Though unranked, he said Illinois is still a dangerous team.

IU drops road contest at Iowa

After a week of good practices, the women's basketball team was still unable to pull off a win at Iowa. They lost the game 78-62 and are left with the record of 9-9, 2-6 in the Big Ten. The Iowa Hawkeyes improve to 11-7 (3-4).

Hoosiers hope to cage Cardinals

Thursday's practice for the IU men's basketball team was not lacking intensity. Loud vocals from both the players and the coaches could be heard throughout the two-hour practice. And there was enough emotional static in the air that there was almost a fight between two players.

Team looks to end skid

Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin are the three teams that have stopped the Hoosiers from winning their last four games. The Hoosiers (9-8, 2-5) will try to end that streak as they look for their first Big Ten road win of the season against the Iowa Hawkeyes (10-7, 2-4) at 7 p.m. tonight in Iowa City. It's a game that could set the tone for the rest of IU's season. There's a lot to learn with so many young players, senior forward Lisa Eckart said, but the team isn't walking away from any losses without learning a lesson. "I think we've learned from each of our losses," Eckart said. "We're preparing as much as we can for each game we play from here on out."

Wrestlers face road tests

The IU wrestling squad started the Big Ten season on the wrong foot. Penn State came to Bloomington last Friday and overpowered an injury-depleted Hoosier squad 37-4. But the next day, the Hoosiers went to Indianapolis and swept a four-team dual meet. This three-meet winning streak should provide the Hoosiers a morale boost going into meets against No. 3 Ohio State tonight and No. 10 Michigan Friday.

Surprise team tops Big Ten

With the Big Ten season quickly approaching the halfway mark, here is a rundown of some of the conference's top stories so far. The Michigan Wolverines have seen their share of drama this year. The Iowa Hawkeyes also jumped out to a surprising start, beginning the season 10-3. While most coaches will say that experienced players are the key to a successful team, it doesn't hurt to have ultra-talented freshman either.

CNN Web site imitated in hoax

Spartans slay Hoosiers

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The No. 19 IU men's basketball team needed two things to happen Tuesday night. The first was that the Hoosiers figure out how to carry their home-court intensity with them to away games. The second was that the starting line-up would include freshman guard Bracey Wright. The Hoosiers showed a higher level of intensity against Michigan State, and IU's leading scorer, Wright, who returned to the court as a starter after a four-game hiatus, contributed to this. But these factors were not enough to boost the Hoosiers (14-5, 4-3 Big Ten) over the Spartans (11-8, 3-4), as Michigan State won 61-54.

Hoosier duo earns Big Ten honors

The Big Ten Conference has announced two IU athletes as Big Ten swimmer and diver of the week. Senior Sara Hildebrand and junior Meghan Medendorp were honored by the Big Ten in recognition of their achievements in competition after a blowout win at No. 17 Purdue on Jan.18.

Freshman steps up 'passion'

Players not suspended

IU basketball players senior Jeff Newton and freshman Bracey Wright were not suspended from the team, despite rumors to the contrary. A web site imitating CNN.com erroneously reported the two had been arrested and suspended.
