Former Hoosiers kick off pro careers in MLS draft

A pair of former IU men’s soccer defenders, Tommy Meyer and Chris Estridge, will both continue their soccer careers at the professional level after learning Thursday afternoon that they were selected in the first and second rounds, respectively, of the 2012 MLS Super Draft.

The men's basketball team will take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers today in the first home game of the semester.The Hoosiers (15-1, 3-1) will try to make it three straight wins against the Gophers (12-5, 0-4) on Thursday in their first home game since returning from winter break.

Roth works to fill offensive void

It wasn’t the typical way for Matt Roth to get going. Roth got an open look from 3-point range, the place he had scored 82 percent of his points. But instead of pulling the trigger, Roth saw Penn State guard Nick Colella closing out on him and pump-faked. He got Colella in the air, drew the foul and knocked down three free throws for a five-point lead at halftime.

Most years, I eagerly anticipate the start of the NBA season. This year, though, thanks to the lockout, early November came and went with no NBA action, and I hardly noticed or cared. IU excels at its Indiana home, falters on road

After a loss Sunday at home to conference foe Northwestern, the IU women’s basketball team now stands at 5-12, including a 0-4 start in the Big Ten. But even with only two wins thus far in Assembly Hall, the Hoosiers do seem to show an advantage when playing on Branch McCracken Court. They’ve won by almost six more points when in Bloomington, and their losses have been much closer as they lose by seven points fewer on average. Here’s a look at the IU women’s basketball team’s home court advantage so far in the 2011-12 campaign.

Latest AP poll ranks IU No. 7 after solid victories

The latest Associated Press poll has IU at No. 7, marking the first time the Hoosiers have cracked the top 10 since Jan. 21, 2008. Littrell happy to be a Hoosier

As 2011 came to an end, the IU football team lost one of its co-offensive coordinators when Rod Smith left to coach at Arizona. On Jan. 3, IU Coach Kevin Wilson named Seth Littrell, coincidentally the former co-offensive coordinator at Arizona, to the post of offensive coordinator.
