Hoosiers seek to avenge earlier loss to Creighton

John Swann has proven himself this season. The sophomore marking back has repeatedly marked the opponent's most dangerous attacker, and, for the most part, he's been successful in shutting his man down. Swann didn't let UCLA's McKinley Tennyson Jr. or Portland's Olympian Conor Casey do much against the Hoosiers. And just this past weekend, he kept North Carolina's Chris Carrieri, the nation's leading scorer, from scoring a goal.

The Big Ten named 13 members of the IU women's soccer team with the honors of Academic All-Conference. The Hoosiers have the third most conference selections behind Iowa (16) and Penn State (15).

Team gets 4th in tourney

Sophomore Megan Geers won the 200-yard breaststroke and freshman Sarah Fiden took first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle for the women's swimming team Sunday in at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. Fiden defeated her nearest competitor by almost 13 seconds with a time of 16:49.62.

Hoosiers to face Irish

It's gotten to the point where the University of Notre Dame athletics department decided to give Troy Murphy his own Web site, complete with a diary, photo gallery, quotes, bio and stats -- everything an Irish fan would tear right into, short of the guy's shoe size.

Hoosiers return to final four

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Eddie Robinson said he took his eyes off Ryan Mack for two seconds Saturday at North Carolina's Fetzer Field. For two seconds, Robinson watched the ball instead of his man. Because of that brief moment, the Tar Heels can only watch the NCAA men's soccer College Cup this weekend. Mack, a junior midfielder, received a ball from senior midfielder Justin Tauber and turned on Robinson in those two seconds, finding himself a half step ahead of the Tar Heel midfielder with nothing in front of him. Then, with 31:08 remaining in the quarterfinal game, Mack sent a shot to the upper near corner and past North Carolina goalkeeper Michael Ueltschey. IU hung on to win 1-0. The victory, IU's third in three tournament road games thus far, sends the Hoosiers to their fourth consecutive final four.

Laskowski seeks top athletics job

John Laskowski, a former IU basketball player, said he has applied for the position of athletics director. An 18-member search committee headed by Vice President for Administration Terry Clapacs is seeking a replacement for athletics director Clarence Doninger, who is retiring June 30.

Almost an upset

Junior forward Rachael Honegger\'s three pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining fell short as No. 8 Louisiana Tech escaped a major upset, holding on to beat IU at the Houston Hilton Classic Saturday, 54-53.

Coach finds final four trip difficult, but rewarding

TERRE HAUTE -- Interim head coach Mike Davis said he's been putting too much pressure on freshman forward Jared Jeffries and that he had unfair expectations for the former Bloomington North Star. But the entire game against Indiana State Wednesday fell on Jeffries' shoulders. He heaved a shot from half court at the buzzer and it bounced off the backboard and rim before IU lost 59-58 to Indiana State

Men's team signs 3 recruits

Hoosiers on familiar ground

In some ways, the 1998 and 2000 men's soccer seasons are stark contrasts. For one, the 1998 squad coasted to the national championship with a 23-2 record. The 2000 team, on the other hand, slipped into the NCAA tournament with an at-large bid after ending the regular season on a three-game losing streak.
