Team bowls over Boilers in Brickyard

IU and Purdue have one of the largest rivalries in all of collegiate athletics. Beating Purdue is one of the main highlights for any fan of a Hoosier team. But this rivalry does not stop on the basketball hardwood, football field or the soccer pitch. Any time the Hoosiers and Boilermakers square off, it's a big game. Intensity for the in-state rivalry escalates further when the two meet up with a championship title on the line, no matter what the sport.

Hoosiers place 10th, Overton 4th, in fall finale

In its final tournament of the fall season, the IU men's golf team was victim to a difficult course, bad weather and one of the toughest fields it faced this fall. Despite starting the second day of competition tied for sixth, the Hoosiers couldn't keep up with the rest of the field and finished 10th at the inaugural Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge.

Louisville 1st of 3 straight nonconference foes IU to face

Tradition runs deep

The tradition of coaching success at IU is unmatched by most universities in the nation. Doc Counsilman, Bobby Knight and Jerry Yeagley are considered to be some the greatest college coaches in the history of their respected sports. It's time for Hoosier fans to add another name to the list of Hall-of-Fame coaches: diving coach Jeff Huber.

IU wraps up fall season with trip to Hawaii

Team finds stride as season winds down

After a week off following its first victory of the season, the IU men's golf team wrap up its fall season this week at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge starting today at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore. The Hoosiers, who won the Xavier Invitational two weeks ago on the strength of four top 20 performances and a 21 stroke margin of victory, believe they are playing at the top of their game.

Colts falter in AFC South divisional battle

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts could have taken a strong hold on the AFC South divisional lead Sunday when they faced the second-place Jacksonville Jaguars. Instead, Jacksonville (5-2) now finds itself with a half-game lead following its 27-24 win against the Colts at the RCA Dome.

OSU freshman rushes for 144 yards

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It was Ohio State's first drive of the game, and the Hoosier defense forced a fumble from freshman running back Antonio Pittman on the Buckeye 41-yard line. However, the play was called back after a replay, only to have OSU sophomore quarterback Troy Smith complete a 59-yard touchdown pass on the very next play.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- John Michael Hayden came through for the fourth straight time for No. 8 IU men's soccer team (11-3-1 overall, 5-1 Big Ten) as he scored the game-winning goal in the Hoosiers' 1-0 win against Ohio State (7-5-2 Overall, 3-1 Big Ten) yesterday at Jessie Owens Memorial Stadium.

Cardinals will face Sox in series

Looking to Buck the trend

Since the inception of the IU-Ohio State Big Ten rivalry in 1901, the Buckeyes have dominated, leading the series 62-12-3. The Hoosiers will look to reverse the prevailing trend of the series when they do battle with the Buckeyes at 11 a.m. Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio Stadium. Both IU (2-4, 0-3 Big Ten) and Ohio State (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) come into the game struggling. The Hoosiers have lost their past four games, with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of Northwestern, 31-24. Ohio State has faced similar woes since entering conference play, dropping three straight and falling out of the top 25. This is the first time since 1999 the Buckeyes have dropped three straight. A loss to IU would take OSU back to 1943 and World War II for the last time the scarlet and gray were mired in such a skid.

Hoosiers return home for tough weekend matches

After snapping its 10-match losing streak last Saturday against Northwestern, the IU women's volleyball team returns home this weekend to play two tough Big Ten opponents. Tonight, the Hoosiers will take on Minnesota, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation. The Golden Gophers come to Bloomington with an 18-2 record overall and a 7-1 clip in the Big Ten. "Minnesota is a great team," said senior Katie Pollom. "We have to be ready to play our best from the start."

IU travels for final away games

Hoping to further capitalize on a 3-1 record during its six-game road trip, including an overtime win Tuesday against Miami University in Ohio, the IU field hockey team will face Central Michigan University and Big Ten power No. 3 ranked Michigan State this weekend. IU looks to gain momentum as the two matchups occur two weeks away from the Big Ten tournament in Evanston, Ill. Despite a 6-7 record, Central Michigan comes off a 3-0 victory over Miami, pushing the Chippewas' record to 3-4 in the Mid-American Conference. Forwards Kristy Reed and Allyson Doan lead the Chippewas' offense. Doan achieved a bronze medal at the 2002 Junior Olympics, while Reed is a returning starter who totaled 30 points in 2003, including 12 goals and six assists. Between the pipes for Central Michigan is sophomore Danielle Frank, who has posted two shutouts this year for the Chippewas.
