Beginning Thursday, fifth-year senior Pat DeGain will step out into the circle, his fiancée and family watching from the stands, and try to outlast the toughest heavyweight competition in the country. Once the NCAA Championships for wrestling are all over, he will become just another student on campus.

Wilson leads fleet of 5 Hoosiers to NCAAs

Typically, an NCAA title is won by a team with a large number of athletes entered in various events, including relays. Every once in awhile, a team comes along with the potential to win on the strength of just a few athletes. This year, the Hoosiers are that team. With just five athletes entered, IU is one of four teams with a chance to take this year's team title.

Team grabs its blades, ready for Clemson opener

IU crew was cheerfully afloat when the fall season ended. A win against Notre Dame, Michigan and Northwestern while sharing a bronze medal with Purdue in October was IU's best-ever performance. The Hoosiers, still buoyant and full of muscular enthusiasm, are raring to go this spring. They said they know they are faster, stronger and smarter.

10-run lead not enough to ensure IU win

At the end of the fifth inning, the Hoosiers had a 10-run lead over the Butler Bulldogs. Three innings and 11 unanswered runs later, IU found itself down by one to its instate rival. That is how the score remained as the Bulldogs, with a nine-run sixth inning, came back and defeated IU Thursday at Sembower Field.

IU looks to shut down top offenses, heads out west

The same Stagg who is better known for his excellence in football at the University of Chicago and started that school playing basketball in 1894 -- 11 years before the Big Ten conference began its basketball league.

Hoosiers try sloppy Sembower -- again

Team ties for 4th at Hyatt Tournament

Golfers say players "drive for show and putt for dough." If that is the case, the No. 35 IU men's golf team came home to Bloomington with empty pockets after finishing fourth in the Hyatt Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament in Puerto Rico this week.

No. 27 Hoosiers to cap off tough non conference season

A win in today's 3 p.m. match against No. 20 Texas Christian University would let the No. 27 Hoosiers do two things. It would send them walking out of the IU Varsity Tennis Center with their first win out of six matches against top-20 ranked opponents this spring. It also would be a good way to close out one of the hardest non conference schedules in the country.

RecSports crown amateur champs

The amateur version of "March Madness" officially began this week as the intramural basketball championships took place Monday and Tuesday at Assembly Hall. After three regular season games and several rounds of tournament play, 16 teams competed for the right to be called RecSports champions in eight different divisions. IU ready for southern rival

Strickland balances books, beakers and basketball

Trio of Hoosiers given All-Big Ten Honors

Freshman center D.J. White was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year Tuesday, headlining a trio of Hoosiers honored by the conference. Junior guard Bracey Wright was named First Team Big Ten by the media and second team by the coaches, and freshman Robert Vaden joined White on the All-Freshmen team.
