Dance minor blossoms

·

Despite the bitter cold and quickly accumulating snow, a large crowd of students and Bloomington residents attended "An Evening of Contemporary Dance" Friday evening. The crowd lined the street, waiting for tickets, in anticipation of viewing the first ever performance from IU dance minors. Though delayed for nearly 20 minutes because of snow, the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre show was almost sold out. Established in the fall of 2002, the IU dance minor program already has 85 participants. Led by Professor Liz Shea, coordinator of the program, and guided by Gwendolyn Hamm, Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Kinesiology, many students are spreading the word about this new minor.

Crimson rip-off

·

As Mike Davis and our team trudge through their series of away games, they're greeted on each court by wild and vocal crowds, edging up to the floor, some even directly behind the Hoosier bench. Purdue's "Gene pool" and Michigan State's "Izzone" act as deadly sixth men, chanting insults and doing their best to make us feel unwelcome.

Sexism and sports: A bad combination

·

Sexism seems to stick to sports like a fungus. First, there are the scantily clad cheerleaders, who many male fans treat as if they are not there to lead cheers but to gather leers. The most popular female tennis player is someone better known for her backside than for her backhand. For some reason, people cannot seem to get enough of Anna Kournikova, even though she could not win a single match in a Grand Slam event in 2002. There is also the infamous Miller Lite commercial that seems to only run on ESPN or during sporting events in which two attractive women wrestle and rip each other's clothes off in a fountain during an argument over whether the beer tastes great or is less filling.
