Hoosiers to face No. 2 Ohio State in tough road match

When Ty Tucker took over as Ohio State men’s tennis coach in the 1999 to 2000 campaign, the Buckeyes had never been to the NCAA Tournament. Eight seasons later, Ohio State has been to seven consecutive NCAA Tournaments, is the defending Big Ten champion after a nine-year reign by Illinois and is the nation’s second-ranked team.

Herbert seen as man of ‘warmth’

“Enormous warmth.” An intriguing way to describe a man so maligned for the things he did – or did not do. But when asked to reflect on departing IU President Adam Herbert’s greatest strengths, University Chancellor Ken Gros Louis said it was Herbert’s ability to connect with people, whether one-on-one or in a group setting, that set him apart from his predecessors.

Dierks Bentley to perform Saturday

This Saturday the IU Auditorium will open its doors to something it hasn’t seen in a while: a country act. The Union Board is bringing Dierks Bentley to the auditorium for a 7:30 p.m. show to add a new flavor to its spring events line-up. “It’s been a long time since we’ve had a country artist, if ever, so we decided it would be good for Union Board to bring (one) to IU,” said Adam Soiref, UB concerts director. The last country performer to come to IU was Willie Nelson in December 2004.

UPDATE: Wilmont, Calloway say goodbye to Assembly Hall with each recording a double-double

The IU men’s basketball team defeated Penn State 94-63 Saturday night in Assembly Hall, completing a perfect 15-0 record at home this season. Senior guard Rod Wilmont led the Hoosiers with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Hoosiers tied the school’s single-game record for three-pointers made with 17. IU finished the game 17-of-32 from beyond the arc.

On Saturday night, when the Hoosiers take on Penn State at 8 p.m. in Assembly Hall, three members of the IU men’s basketball team will step onto Branch McCracken Court for the final time in their careers as Hoosiers. Senior guards Rod Wilmont, Errek Suhr and Earl Calloway have had different experiences during their times at IU. But each player has created his own identity and used it on the basketball court.

Promotion to president

INDIANAPOLIS – Receiving an outright vote of confidence Thursday, soon-to-be University President Michael McRobbie can hope his transition into IU’s top role will be smoother than his predecessor’s. McRobbie, the long-rumored and now newly confirmed University president, will likely experience relative ease in transitioning roles when compared with outgoing President Adam Herbert. IU divers look to qualify for NCAA meet

At the Big Ten championships two weeks ago, the IU men’s diving squad struggled on the 1-meter board, failing to qualify anyone in the finals. However, with a renewed attention to detail and mental preparation, diving coach Jeff Huber believes the Hoosiers are ready to return to their winning ways at the NCAA Zone C Diving meet.
