Rain causes confusion, controversy during race

Black Key Bulls rider Jordan Bailey described it as “epic.” Phi Gamma Delta rider David Ellis said it showed who wasn’t going to quit until the finish line. Phi Delta Theta rider Nick Sovinski said he could have done without the wet cinders in his eyes. All 33 teams on the field had to fight through pouring rain and changing track conditions.

Crean: Cook Hall will leave recruits ‘blown away’

Assembly Hall has undergone minimal changes since it first opened in 1971. IU fans saw the addition of a $1.99 million state-of-the-art scoreboard in 2005. But very little else looks different from when the 17,456-seat facility first opened 39 years ago. Sunday afternoon, however, marked the dedication of the new basketball development center, Cook Hall.

IU bats go quiet at Minnesota

Excise issues 158 citations this weekend

Keeping similar numbers as previous Little 500 weekends, Indiana State Excise Police issued 158 summonses in Bloomington this weekend. The IU Police Department issued 42 citations for public intoxication and 14 for illegal possession/consumption from Thursday to Sunday.

Worldview wins IDEA award

IU’s Worldview has received an Internet2 Driving Exemplary Applications award along with four other nominees. Worldview is a “real-time network monitoring and visualization tool” developed by IU’s Global Research Network Operations Center, according to an IU press release.

Stranded in the volcano aftermath

As chaos ensued in airports around the world this week due to countless delays and cancellations caused by the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull, I enjoyed my last few days in Accra, Ghana, before attempting to return to London. When I reached the airport Tuesday night, I was told that I could either take my spot on my connecting flight to Amsterdam and then find my own way home from there (with the airline not liable for any costs incurred by my transport beyond Amsterdam) or I could wait in Accra until the next available flight that they could guarantee me a seat on back to London on May 3.

Men's Final Standings (after IU Student Foundation ruling): 1) Cutters 2) Phi Delta Theta 3) Phi Gamma Delta 4) Delta Tau Delta 5) Beta Theta Pi2007. 2008. 2009. 2010: Four straight years the Cutters have crossed the finish line of the men’s Little 500 first. Through downpours, thunder and yes-even lightning. The 32 other teams of the 60th running of the men’s  Little 500 were not able to hold off the Cutter’s victory.
