Challenge saves enough energy to buy almost 6,000 pizzas

Eleven residence halls, 31 greek houses and eight academic buildings competed by saving energy and water in the third annual Energy Challenge.

Here are the winners:

Academic Buildings: Geological Sciences and Geological Survey

Residence Hall: Collins Living-Learning Center

Greek House: Zeta Tau Alpha

Here are the total savings:

Electricity 1,026,319 kilowatt-hours
More than powering 1,000 average American homes for a year

Water 2,530,959 gallons
More than filling four Olympic swimming pools

CO2 emissions 1,596,952 pounds
Equal to removing 133 cars from the roads for a year

Utility costs $66,425
More than buying 5,957 extra large pizzas at Pizza X
