Judges rule against housing restrictions

·

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Court of Appeals has struck down Bloomington's ban on three or more unrelated adults living together, jeopardizing similar ordinances elsewhere in the state. In an unanimous decision, the three-judge panel on Friday ruled that Bloomington's ban violates the Indiana Constitution.

Please don't read this mom!

·

My mother is not allowed to read this column. Probably because it is about an independent film the cast and I affectionately nicknamed "Sex, Violence, and the Word (for the sake of my grandmother's I'm going to change this word a bit) 'Quack-Quack.'" It also includes other long-held family movie traditions like smoking, consuming large amounts of alcohol and one joke involving the male genitalia and a one-eyed penguin. (Okay, the joke doesn't really involve a one-eyed penguin. For some odd reason, the director never subscribed to my script changes.)

Away from home for the holidays

·

Thanksgiving Day, Mo McNally loads her plate with a slice or two of turkey (white meat only please), mashed potatoes, salad, cranberry sauce, green beans, a pile of gravy-saturated stuffing and mom's sweet potatoes (the secret is in the marshmallow and brown sugar). Food covers rim to rim, heaped inches off the plate. "I love the eating," said McNally, a senior. "I eat so much that I have to unbutton my pants. And then I eat more."

The Replacements: Letting it be

·

I couldn't help it. I had to write about this album, no matter how obvious of a choice it may be for unearthing a lesser-known but very influential album.

Making a splash with the release of \'Wake\'

·

Singer/songwriter Sheila Nicholls explains that the word wake is a triple-entendre -- getting up in the morning, the trail a boat makes through the water and the celebration of someone's death.
