Record crowd not enough for an IU win

Fifteen lead changes. Ten ties. One overtime. 10,022 fans. It all added up for a classic Hoosier-Boilermaker duel. Unfortunately for the IU women's basketball team one part was missing Sunday afternoon -- a win. The Hoosiers fell short of a victory to arch-rival Purdue, falling 62-58 in an overtime. The loss dropped IU to 10-15 overall and 3-11 in the Big Ten.

IU nabs 2nd road win after effort from walk-on Suhr

Knight public-records case likely to be delayed

The Morgan County judge who will preside over a case to decide whether IU must release a report that led to the firing of former men's basketball coach Bob Knight is likely to postpone the IU case to hear another criminal one.

Women's golf team tees up for spring

The IU women's golf team opens its spring campaign today and Tuesday as part of a 15-team field at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. Led by coach Clint Wallman, the Hoosiers look to build on their improvement during the fall season, as well as in the off season.

Hoosiers compete 1 last time before Big Ten's

In their final home meet of the indoor season, the IU distance runners finished strong, earning top results in IU's final indoor home meet -- the Hoosier Hills Invitational. This weekend's meet was the last before the Indoor Big Ten Championships, and IU churned out some top performances only to lose to the Indiana Invaders Track and Field Club several times.

Team rides wave of home support to beat Louisville

When Hoosier fans think home court advantage, they think Assembly Hall -- not the IU Tennis Center. However, the men's tennis team rode an unusual wave of raucous home fan energy Saturday on their way to topping No. 26 Louisville, 5-2, at the Tennis Center. The win gave the Hoosiers their first win over a top-30 team in more than a year and improved the team's spring record to 3-4 overall.

2 ranked opponents equal 2 road losses

With this weekend's two road losses to No. 18 Tennessee and No. 3 Kentucky, the IU women's tennis team failed to repeat its performances from last year. The No. 29 Hoosiers, who bested both teams at home when they were ranked above them, posted their first loss (4-1 decision) Saturday afternoon at Tennessee's Goodfriend Tennis Center.

Simpson, DeGain finish off IU careers with home win

The Hoosiers had plenty of motivation Friday. It was Senior Night, the last chance for Hoosier fans to see Mike Simpson and Pat DeGain wrestle in Bloomington. If that wasn't motivation enough, Purdue was the team staring back across the mat.

Hoosiers improve, go .500 in Louisiana tournament

After starting the season a disappointing 1-4, the IU women's softball traveled to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend for the Tiger Classic. Hoosiers were off to a great start as junior pitcher Megan Roark threw a complete game no-hitter against Southern University in a 7-0 IU win Friday morning.

IU SING 2005 Livin' Out Loud

Audience members filled the IU Auditorium Friday and Saturday night for IU Sing 2005, "Livin' Out Loud." Twenty-two groups performed seven-minute mini-musicals in an effort to be named overall winner. Vocalists and dancers entertained the crowd between acts.

IU downs Michigan 70-63 for 8th consecutive time

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Make it eight in a row and one closer. IU coach Mike Davis continued his shutout of Michigan coach Tommy Amaker Sunday afternoon with a 70-63 win in Crisler Arena in snowy Ann Arbor, Mich. With the Hoosiers shooting like a John Wayne classic, Amaker walked off the court with his eighth consecutive loss to IU and 10th in a row this season. The win helps IU improve to 12-11 overall and 7-5 in the Big Ten, inching closer to the coveted NCAA Tournament bid.

'Assassins' challenges American ideals

'Assassins' is a musical that explores the dark side of the American dream through music and the plans of nine presidential assassins. The production, presented by the University Players at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, sold out its Saturday night performance, which featured a montage of American folk music, 19th-century ballads, mid-'70s pop music and comedic sarcasm.

Door closing on diplomatic solution

North Korea announced Feb. 10 that it has successfully developed a nuclear weapon. For the past decade, North Korea was suspected of trying to produce these weapons, and it confirmed this effort during negotiations in 2003. At that time, the United States estimated North Korea had produced, or had the ability to create, only a small number of these weapons.

Every year, millions of cats and dogs die because they are unwanted. Between 6 and 8 million cats and dogs enter shelters annually, and about half of them are euthanized, according to the Humane Society of the United States. In 2004 the Bloomington Animal Shelter took in 5,585 cats and dogs and euthanized 2,126 of them.

Fee for all free-for-all

In Wednesday's IDS, the political parties vying in this week's IUSA election gave their positions regarding the $30 athletics fee. Some parties, citing the fact that we get nothing in return for the money except (hopefully) $2 million worth of gratitude from the athletics department, suggest T-shirts for compensation. Others, noting that the fee was imposed on IU students without sufficient consultation or due process, are pressing for more "dialogue" next time around.

Students rights, right now

The rules that guide due process for students are open to change, but the opportunity to improve the Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities and Conduct will close in a week. Student ideas are critical to preserving student rights, and there is not a moment to lose in speaking up.
