County courthouse marks 100 years

On May 21, the History Center debuted its two newest exhibits in honor of the 100th anniversary of the county courthouse, “100 Years Under the Fish” and “Life in 1908.” “100 Years Under the Fish” refers to the fish that tops the weather vane on the roof of the courthouse, and presents a timeline of the events since the courthouse’s construction, including the “Let’s Save It” campaign led by former County Commissioner Charlotte Zietlow in 1981.

Food bank plans for new warehouse

The Hoosier Hills Food Bank is asking local community members to “lend a hand, buy a foot” as part of a capital-raising campaign to fund the purchase of a new warehouse that would greatly expand the agency’s operations.

2*Sweet and Sleep have one major thing going for them: it doesn’t quite sound like anything else that is saturating the scene. The band combines some moderately heavy metal-influenced guitar riffs with opera-tinged vocals and melodies. And although it is all fairly unique in comparison to other bands, it doesn’t necessarily make them good.

Most of the tracks on Stop see the members of Green Day attempting to escape the sound they made on American Idiot. There’s not a lot of soaring hooks here, but instead they’re replaced with a visceral garage rock sound that actually fits the band really well.

It’s been 40 years since George A. Romero unleashed “Night of the Living Dead,” and it’s only grown in cult status. Although this latest film might not be as earth shattering as “Night,” it still proves that he operates on a higher level of filmmaking than most horror directors.

In honor of Memorial Day, the IDS is not in print, so the content is only online. I don’t really like this. I know that today is supposed to be about the heroes who defend our country and not about myself or whatever, but I am kind of vain and get a really big kick out of seeing my picture in the paper, cutting my columns out and giving them to my mom who laminates them.
