Hoosiers head west to Olympic Trials

For track athletes Kyle Jenkins and Abbie Stechschulte their seasons have not been without disappointment, but both athletes have another chance at redemption when they compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., which take place June 27-July 6.

Gordon spoke about how he is preparing for the NBA, his thoughts on IU men’s basketball personnel changes and what he would do with an NBA salary.

IUPD teaches recruits police-driving skills

Police officers and officers-in-training have the chance this week to drive at high speeds. Friday will culminate a weeklong Emergency Vehicle Operations Course training program for IU Police Department Police Academy cadets and IUPD, Bloomington Police Department and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department personnel, according to an IU Police Department press release.

Retirement party to be held for outgoing IU Foundation president

A crowd of more than 500 students, faculty and staff are expected to gather in the Musical Arts Center on Friday for a retirement celebration in honor of IU Foundation President Curt Simic, said Barbara Coffman, IU Foundation Executive Director of Strategic Planning and Communications.

NCAA levies additional allegation against men’s basketball program

The NCAA has levied a sixth allegation against the men’s basketball program, saying the University failed to monitor the program’s compliance to NCAA rules. The University released a letter Thursday sent by the NCAA to University council at the Ice Miller law firm informing that the sixth allegation has been added to the allegations against former coach Kelvin Sampson and the basketball program.

A useless sacrifice

If it’s true that those who give up liberty for security deserve neither, then a great deal of Congress is operating on borrowed freedom. It was they who, last week, overwhelmingly approved vast changes to the government’s wiretapping protocol, expanding their ability to spy both domestically and internationally. Perhaps the piece de resistance is a provision that allows the government to conduct a weeklong wiretap without obtaining a warrant if it is deemed “that important national security information would otherwise be lost.”  VIDEO:  IDS Opinion: Wiretapping
