Brand awards funding for arts and humanities grants

President Myles Brand announced IU awarded nearly $900,000 in arts and humanities research grants to 31 faculty members and collaborative groups. He said he put aside the funds during his State of the University speech last October.

Parking lot to receive renovations

The board of trustees voted to allot $675,000 to renovate the White Lot, which is located west of Memorial Stadium. The lot serves both the IU shuttle bus service and athletic events parking.

Gros Louis named to First Trustee Professorship

The trustees established a new title for those who return to teaching after serving in the highest levels of administration. The title, Trustee Professor, is a five-year term that is renewable. Trustee Professors are to be engaged in teaching and research, according to the resolution. They are also expected to undertake "special assignments" such as chairing a high-level search committee or assisting with fund-raising efforts.

Steps taken to ensure Internet security

A security breach at the bursar's office allowed a hacker to download the personal information of 3,100 students in January. Now as a result, the trustees unanimously passed a resolution aimed to avoid such security problems in the future.

IU prohibits old growth products

IU became the first major institution of higher education to prohibit the purchasing of products derived from old growth forests.

ROTC cadets commissioned

Graduating members of the IU Army and Air Force ROTC programs received their gold bars at a Joint Commissioning ceremony Friday, as they took the Oath of Office as 2nd Lieutenant in the armed services.

Hoosiers struggle in weekend activities

This weekend was a losing one for the IU athletic teams as softball and baseball lost their contests while the men's golf team is in last place at the Big Ten Championships in Illinois. Saturday, the baseball team dropped a 10-1 decision to the Buckeyes of Ohio State in the first game of the four-game series, and the softball team lost 3-1 to in-state rivals Purdue at West Lafayette.

Wrestling career far from over for senior
