IU plays host to Team USA as world champs continue collegiate tour

·

The regular season may be done, but the highlight match of the season is awaiting the No. 11 Hoosiers. IU is set to face off against reigning world champs, Team USA, in an exhibition match-up tonight at 7 p.m., tonight at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The U.S. National Team is making a stop in Bloomington as it continues to visit college campuses across the nation in preparation for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Read fine print on the condom

·

When you think of an educational bed-time read, the tiny print warning label on a condom wrapper probably doesn't come to mind. Most people are unable to summarize the warning ("if used properly, Latex condoms will help reduce the risk of transmission of HIV infection and many other sexually transmitted diseases"), and once they've reached the point in which a condom becomes a necessity, are unlikely to turn back based on a tiny warning.

Get your 'Prince' without kissing a frog

·

"The Prince and Me," or as I now refer to it, "The Prince and (add your name in the blank)," is a film which plays out onscreen the girlish dream of finding Prince Charming. Although in today's world, the land of queens and kings are only found in books. So when I invited six of my girlfriends to view the film with me, deep down we all dreamed of being in our own "Cinderella story."

The Who: 'See Them, Feel Them'

·

The Who hold a very special place in my heart. Their 1971 masterpiece, Who's Next, was the first pre-Dookie disc I ever purchased.

Dylan disc dynamite

·

This album, so long only accessible to hardcore Dylan fans, is finally available to the public. And that is a very, very good thing.

CELLULAR CULTURE

·

Jack Morris' cell phone resembled a concrete cinder block before it resembled a modern mobile device. But his famous phone, which was repeatedly confiscated by Mr. Belding, was just one of the tools which made him "Preppy," the most popular and trendy kid in the whole school. If only Zack were around today. Zack's famous TNBC character died after the prime-time "Saved By the Bell College Years," when the show finally lost its edge.

Comic flick one 'Hell' of a good time

·

Based on Mike Mignola's eponymous graphic novel, "Hellboy" centers around the conflicted life of a demon summoned to earth as a harbinger of Armageddon. Instead, he winds up being raised to be compassionate and help defend humanity from the demons and sorcerers bent on the corruption of our world.

Critic smells what The Rock is cooking

·

The Rock has finally met his match, and it is not Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold Steve Austin. It is acting in his most dramatic role yet -- he faced the challenge and surprisingly did it justice.

A PEOPLE'S BAND

·

The members of Hoobastank have been plenty busy promoting a new album and playing college campuses as part of MTV's Campus Invasion tour, (though the closest they come to Indiana University will be at rival Purdue University on April 18) but they were able to take a few minutes in Chicago to answer questions about the band's direction. The alterna-grunge foursome made a quick stop in the Windy City before winding down the east coast to hit Florida this week.

The melancholic magic of Blonde Redhead

·

Blonde Redhead have succeeded in creating another collection of moody, somber tunes on their newest album, Misery Is a Butterfly. This most recent effort suggests an artistic step forward for the band, from their previous minimalism to Misery Is a Butterfly's more complex arrangements.

'Something's Gotta Give,' apparently it's the extras

·

"Something's Gotta Give" revolves around the lives of two individuals -- Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) and Erica Barry (Diane Keaton) -- whose lives are suddenly forced together after Harry experiences chest pains at Erica's Hampton mansion, where he was vacationing with Erica's daughter, Marin (Amanda Peet).

Feel-good times on the 'Range' meet Disney World

·

"Home on the Range" does exactly what it should. It entertains a younger generation of kids, who have had to share a majority of their recent movies with adults because of the subtly sophisticated humor in contemporary animated films. While "Range" has a few lines skewed to make adults laugh, it doesn't cross the line and leave kids asking mom and dad what was so funny.

Weezer's true 'Blue' 10 years later

·

About two weeks ago a special two-disc "Deluxe Edition" of Weezer's 1994 self-titled debut (aka The Blue Album) and a retrospective DVD were released into stores.

'Massacre' offers satisfactory slaughter

·

Tobe Hooper's 1974 film, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," is the great-grandfather of the modern horror genre. Four full years before John Carpenter's "Halloween," "Chainsaw," loosely based on the true story of serial killer Ed Gein, broke open the gates for the common hack 'n' slash flick. It is horror's holy grail.

Fight the power

·

With an election year already upon us, it is nearing that time when we will have to make that most important of decisions. No, it is not which candidate we will vote for -- that would be getting ahead of ourselves. The critical decision is simply this: are you going to get your ass out there and vote?

Reed revives VU, solo classics with flair, humor

·

The first disc of Animal Serenade begins with Lou Reed strumming the famous chords of "Sweet Jane," a song Reed first recorded with the hugely influential Velvet Underground roughly 35 years ago, causing the crowd at The Wiltern in L.A. to roar its approval.

GET CREAMED

·

It's 3:46 a.m. on a chilly Saturday in early April, and the crowd outside Bloomington's newest nightspot has snaked out of the double plate-glass doors and spilled onto Walnut Street, where stragglers from 21-and-over joints are munching Taco Bell gorditas and attempting to hitch rides home.

Ziggy Stardust and the midlife crises

·

Columbia Records has recently remastered a number of David Bowie albums from the '90s, a decade which saw two high points for the godfather of glam rock: the 1991 Cool World Soundtrack and 1997's Earthling.

PICK YOUR POISON

·

The beats of Cassidy and R. Kelly's "Hotel," are bumping in Kilroy's' Sports Bar as a group of girls playfully argue, laugh and talk. Their conversation is interrupted when a waiter arrives with a tray of several small glasses. The girls applaud him as he passes them out. He has what the girls want. It's shot time.
