After nearly 23 years in the "NBC Nightly News" anchor chair, Brokaw reminded his viewers that "we've been through a lot together, through dark days and nights, and seasons of hope and joy.

Gallery walk features holiday art

Nine art galleries will celebrate the visual arts during the annual Holiday Downtown Art Gallery Walk this evening. The walk will showcase local and regional artwork from galleries within walking distance of each other. The gallery walk takes place four times each year, and this will be the last Downtown Gallery Art Walk for 2004.

I'm writing in response to the column "The reality of big labor" (Dec. 1). My question to Edward Delp is this: What makes you think that a lot of pizza drivers really want to be pizza drivers? Have you checked out our economy lately? There are many very hard working people out there waiting tables, delivering pizzas, mopping floors and driving cabs for all the people who are more fortunate in this world to have that better job.

Pell Grant cuts cost students

The U.S. Department of Education is in the throes of a bad idea, and it's going to hit students right where it hurts. Congress will allow the education department to make changes in the formula that determines student financial aid. The reformulation likely will disqualify tens of thousands of students from receiving federal financial aid, including the Pell Grant.

World AIDS Day increases awareness

As the sun set Monday, 200 flames flickered and halos of gold from little candles lit the parapets around Sample Gates. The red ribbon painted with felt tip pens on white paper which held the candles was visible from afar. Down Indiana Avenue, lamps were aglow and fairy lights lit snowflakes hung from street lights. Green and red holly wreaths sparkled, reflecting the holiday season.

DiNardo let go following 3 losing seasons

After a 3-8 season, speculation swirled Tuesday night that IU football coach Gerry DiNardo would be fired. At a press conference Wednesday, the three-year head coach was officially fired when IU athletics director Rick Greenspan confirmed DiNardo had been relieved of his duties as IU's head football coach.
