Bloomington hosts Homeward Bound walk

The 6th Annual Homeward Bound 5K Walk to provide housing and fight homelessness will be held this Sunday at Bloomington’s Third Street Park. Registration for the walk begins at noon, with the walk starting at 2 p.m.

ProCure opens world’s first proton therapy training center

Bloomington can now add to its resume that it has one of only five proton therapy centers in the United States. By opening the world’s first center geared toward proton therapy training, the city is helping to advance this newly evolved form of external beam cancer treatment.

Fraternity hosts powder-puff tournament to fundraise for cancer

The Delta Tau Delta fraternity held its eighth annual powder-puff football tournament Saturday to raise money for IU Circle of Life, a not-for-profit philanthropy organized by IU students to raise money for cancer research. Alpha Xi Delta’s team won the event.

‘Cancer Challenge’ to raise money, awareness for a cure

Before he died of cancer in June 2007, former IU football coach Terry Hoeppner gave IU students hope for the team to play its first bowl game in more than a decade. Now, those same students have the opportunity to give hope to cancer patients in the Coach Hep Cancer Challenge, which will take place May 10 at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

In memory of King

Today we honor the life and memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a compassionate leader whose life was tragically cut short 40 years ago today. On April 4, 1968, King was assassinated in Memphis, Tenn. Though he was only 39 years old, he had already dramatically changed the landscape of life in America.
