Rivalry? What rivalry?

·

Throughout the week, I’ve been seeing the same articles on Web sites and on sports pages across the country, all mentioning the resurgence of the Lakers-Celtics rivalry.

Mayweather Jr. calls it quits

·

The world’s best pound-for-pound boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr., has decided to retire. The “Pretty Boy” was scheduled to square off in the ring against “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya on Sept. 20, in a rematch that would have for sure been the most lucrative fight in boxing history. But that will not happen now as this is the third time Floyd has said he’s done.

Picketing workers slow progress at 4 campus sites

Building for the future

·

Why did we have to spend so much time trying to find scholarships? Why did we have to go through the horror that is the Free Application For Student Aid, more commonly known as FAFSA? Why are so many of us going to end up debt-laden when we finally get out of school? Why does college cost so much?

Sour on showers

·

I didn’t shower today or yesterday, and I can’t remember if I showered the day before. Being expected to shower daily, especially in the summer, is probably my least favorite thing about being a human (other than foot cramps).

And your prize is...

·

Congratulations, Barack Obama. You are now the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party. Here’s what you win: a divided party, an opponent who hasn’t been attacked by your party members in months and pockets that might not be as deep in the general election.

Keeping it local

·

Every time I pass the Panda Express they’re building on Kirkwood, I pause briefly and sigh. Sometimes I look for spare tools on the ground, hoping that there’s some handiwork I can do to speed its completion. We have one back where I live in Illinois, and I have fond high-school memories of dining on Kung Pao and Dr. Pepper. Someday, Bloomington will know my joy, but that moment isn’t coming quickly enough.

Knee Deep

·

Water covered many low-lying areas in Bloomington and on campus Wednesday afternoon following a thunderstorm. On campus, Dunn Meadow was covered in water as the Jordan River overflowed its banks. Around the city, areas including Kirkwood Avenue and the IN-45/46 Bypass also reported high water.  SLIDESHOW:  Flooding around Bloomington
