To the editors of “The Radish”: I would like to applaud your recent article regarding the continuing and startling “uselessness” (as you call it) of a liberal arts education. You correctly point out that in today’s perilous job market, those majors and areas of study not geared toward financial success leave academic consumers in a highly disadvantageous economic position.

Taking advantage of free time

First semester ends the moment we finish our last final exam. Our professors can no longer assign us homework, we have no responsibilities and we won’t even see the inside of a lecture hall until the second Monday in January. The days when we were slaves to our classwork and banished ourselves to the library until all work was finished will be distant memories. We’ll be on break without a care in the world. But perhaps not having a care in the world is a bad thing.

How I came to hate the holidays

In elementary school I despised the holiday season. Looking back on it now I realize that this was just a disgust that originated from my inherent jealously of Christmas. It is a useless argument really; everyone knows that Hanukkah cannot compete with the behemoth that is Christmas. Those eight candles will never achieve the kind of same marketable appeal that Santa and his reindeer do have.

LEXINGTON, KY — Kentucky started the game on a 22-4 run and never looked back, crushing the IU men's basketball team 72-54. As they have all season long, IU grappled with turnovers. In all, the Hoosiers turned the ball over 15 times in the first half and were unable to recover from the run Kentucky generated from the mistakes.IU never brought the Wildcats' lead within single digits after their initial run.The rout is IU's second in as many road games this season. The Hoosiers lost to then-No. 15 Wake Forest 83-58 on Dec. 3 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Annual holiday benefit to honor deceased IU student

Bloomington musicians will raise money this weekend in memory of former IU student Madeline Krause. Proceeds from Krista Detor’s third annual Holiday Show at 6:30 and 9 p.m. Friday at the John Waldron Arts Center auditorium will go to the Madeline Krause Harmony School Fund.
