Hmm, ESPN or Cosmopolitan? Decisions, decisions. In every doctor’s waiting room, there are two types of magazines – one for heterosexual men, the other for heterosexual women. It is at this literary crossroad that homos like me are left biting their nails in nervous contemplation, bloodying the cuticles of otherwise beautiful jazz hands.

Being the great son that I am, I headed back home last weekend to spend Easter with the fam, only to find out I'd be spending the weekend alone. Of all my friends from home, only one opted to make the trip back. And when I called her to see what she was doing, I was notified that she'd be spending her whole Friday night watching her recently purchased "The Complete First Season of Beverly Hills 90210." Sounded good enough to me, I had nothing else to do, but halfway through the night hanging out at the Peach Pit just wasn't cutting it for me. Maybe I couldn't handle that not one seemingly hot rich person didn't have some sort of hidden demons or those disgusting insanely patterned sweaters they loved so much or how awkward Tori Spelling looked back in her teens or how frustrated I got when Brenda couldn't locate Dylan at a hotel (come on, even Zack Morris had a cell phone). I took off early, but wasn't ready to call it a night. I knew there was no chance of any human contact, and suddenly it hit me -- a way to contact my celebrity friends I'd never even thought of before: MySpace. Everyone's on MySpace these days, surely my favorite celebrity friends would be, too. I put my pajamas on, pulled out my laptop and got in bed to have a slumber party with my friends.

Sampson’s players volunteering good for campus

Today, a fellow classmate, and good friend, and I went to the Shalom Center to provide information about the Earned Income Credit for a social work project. As we were walking in, coach Kelvin Sampson yelled at me for wearing flip-flops. He was accompanied by some players and another coach. My friend and I got to talking and were thinking about how great it is that coach Sampson has his players and coaches volunteer. We spoke with an employer there and he said that Coach wanted his players to not forget there is life off campus. Coach Sampson started having his players volunteer in Oklahoma and wanted to continue that here in Bloomington. The employee also told us he inspired the soccer team to get involved. So the men’s soccer team volunteers on Wednesdays and the men’s basketball team on Fridays. Great work, Coach Sampson – and I’ll quit wearing flip-flops when it’s 40 degrees. Professor receives Nobel Peace Prize nomination for 2007

After almost 20 years of researching and providing assistance for HIV/AIDS patients, IU professor of medicine Dr. Joseph Mamlin is being recognized for his contributions, along with 180 other candidates nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Hoosiers drop contest against Evansville

Playing its fifth game in three days and its first midweek nonconference contest since March 7, the IU baseball team fell 8-1 to the Evansville Purple Aces at Sembower Field on Monday. The loss snapped a quick two-game winning streak for the Hoosiers and dropped them to 13-14.

County distributes blue ribbons for abuse awareness

“To whom it may concern.” It was the opening phrase of an e-mail sent to the Indiana Daily Student newsroom from the Monroe County Department of Child and Family Services. The letter, which has been sent to numerous businesses, agencies and newsrooms around Bloomington, contained a reminder about April, a reminder about support and awareness – a reminder about child abuse.

Taking notes: Student’s unique compositions awarded

The Awards & Recognition section of Jeff Stanek’s resume reads like the complete list of honors available to student composers. At the age of 22, the music composition graduate student has already garnered 13 accolades for writing music, including two prestigious BMI Student Composer Awards and first prize at the CEMJKO International Electroacoustic Music Contest.

Group dances on in 8th year as IU club

Break dancing: a form of solo dancing that involves rapid acrobatic moves in which different parts of the body touch the ground. The IU Break Dance Club has been active for almost eight years. It was founded by a student who was looking for a way to meet other break dancers on campus.

Comcast replacing Insight as Bloomington’s cable provider

Before the end of 2007, Comcast Corporation will become the new cable provider in Bloomington, taking over for Insight Communications. It is the result of an agreement to split their joint venture, the Insight Midwest partnership, of which both companies held a 50 percent ownership.

The discouraging exchange rate in Europe and sky-high prices drive young adults to cheap hostels during their treks around the continent.

Trustees approve $64M data center

With the ability to protect one of IU’s most valuable assets from direct hit from a tornado, a $64 million design plan for the Cyber Infrastructure Facility was approved last Friday at the IU board of trustees’ meeting at IU-South Bend.
