Havard students launch hunger strike to support security guards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Around 20 people, including students and other members of the Harvard University community, protested Thursday afternoon in front of Mass. Hall, marking the kickoff of a widely publicized hunger strike aimed at convincing the University to support better working conditions for security guards.

West Lafayette man, 28, killed in Baghdad Thursday

WEST LAFAYETTE – A soldier from West Lafayette has been killed in Iraq. Army Spc. Andrew R. Weiss, 28, died Thursday in Baghdad after an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle, military officials said. He was one of four soldiers in the vehicle.

Graduate Danny Barrido arrived at the IU Auditorium on Friday wearing his graduation cap and gown a day before the actual commencement ceremony. He made a point to express that he wasn’t going to take it off, except maybe to sleep. In a sense, Barrido was merely prepping himself for what was to come on Saturday when he graduated.

TV comedy writer charged in wife’s slaying

NOBLESVILLE, Ind.–A television comedy writer and producer was arrested and charged Thursday with murder in the death of his wife, whose decomposing body was found in their home. John James “J.J.” Paulsen , 47, was served with the warrant at the Hamilton County Jail, where he had been held since the discovery of his wife’s body, said Carmel Police Department spokesman Lt. Jeff Horner.

LA police to review use of force

A day of mostly calm immigration rallies around the nation ended with a clash in Los Angeles, where officers fired rubber bullets and used batons against demonstrators. The police chief said officers may have used inappropriate force and promised a review.

Warning sirens to speak during Friday’s testing

IU Police Department Sgt. Craig Munroe’s voice won’t be any different than it usually is. But on Friday, it will be heard all over Bloomington. “It’s just like talking on the radio,” he said. “It does not intimidate me in the least. Right when I click that microphone it might. Hopefully all goes well.”
