Martinsville teen to be tried as adult for shooting other student

In the aftermath of a Martinsville shooting that happened March 25, the 15-year-old boy accused of firing a gun on another student will now be facing an adult trial.

‘Spamalot’ to finish Auditorium season

The IU Auditorium season will finish with knights in tights, zany British humor and a giant wooden rabbit. “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” a twist on the cult classic film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” which is itself a twist on the tale of King Arthur, will be performed at 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Auditorium.

The first thing Joe Masek drew obsessively was the Mötley Crüe logo. He was 12 at the time, living in Cleveland, and had just been dropped off at the runaway shelter by his parents. Now 34, he is a senior majoring in pre-art therapy through the Individualized Major Program.

Robert Shumaker, vice president of Life Sciences at the Indianapolis Zoo, led a discussion Friday in the Student Building on his new book, “Animal Tool Behavior: The Use and Manufacture of Tools by Animals.” The book, Shumaker said, is a summary and review of all reported cases of nonhuman tool use.

Deputy chief plans ahead to commencement

It seemed silly for Laury Flint to go back for May graduation. She’d been working at the IU Police Department since January, but there was no such thing as winter graduation when Flint, the new IUPD deputy chief for the Bloomington campus, finished her degree at IU in December 1981. So she never went back for commencement.

Despite battling the rain and professional athletes during the weekend, the IU track and field team was able to post winning marks at the Polytan Invitational.

Weekend sweep gives IU chance to capture regular-season crown

The IU softball team swept its two-game series during the weekend at Michigan State to record its 10th win in a row, its longest streak since 1994, and improve to 30-15 (10-2) on the season. The Hoosiers 30 victories are their most since the 2006 season.
