After a year of planning and months of construction, the Weil Journalism Library located inside Ernie Pyle Hall will reopen today. The newly renovated facility offers 11 Macintosh and PC units. Famous pianist astounds audience

·

Then the term "child prodigy" is spoken, Mozart usually pops into mind. Wednesday night at the IU Auditorium a similar present-day musical child prodigy, though a child no longer, was seen in performance. Lang Lang, the brilliant Chinese pianist whose public career began at five and reached international fame at 17, made an appearance at IU, both to give a concert and to discuss his interpretations with piano students in the School of Music.

Around The State

·

Daniels to push for Indiana to observe daylight-savings INDIANAPOLIS -- Daylight-savings time has been one of the most divisive issues debated in the General Assembly for three decades, but Republican Gov.-elect Mitch Daniels said he will push hard for it in the upcoming session.

Kiss my grits evangelists

·

Despite all the recent political activity (I think there was an election this week), I can't stop thinking about an off-beat news bite which must be an apocalyptic harbinger.

The Indiana Daily Student

Ignorant electorate

·

With the election essentially over and the major decisions made with popular mandate, it seems like I wouldn't be able to complain about our election and voting anymore. But, is a little thing like that going to stop me? No! I think I still got one more column about voting in me.

GOP takes firm grasp in state

·

Republicans clutched Indiana's representation in the U.S. government Tuesday with an eagle's talon. Of the nine U.S. Congressional seats in the Hoosier state, seven were snatched by Grand Old Partiers.

Western U.S. a bastion for medical marijuana

·

With Montana's approval of a medical marijuana initiative, nearly three-fourths of Western states now have such laws -- while only two of the 37 states outside the West have adopted them. Why is the West so much more receptive to the idea?

Rehnquist could retire with Bush win

·

WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush's re-election makes it more likely Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist will retire soon. And Republican gains in the Senate mean the president has more flexibility to nominate another strong conservative to fill that vacancy and other federal judgeships. There has been no turnover at the Supreme Court in more than a decade, but a shake-up appears imminent now that Rehnquist is seriously ill with cancer.

The Indiana Daily Student

Unnecessary verbal force

·

The university is often perceived as an environment of free thought, action and speech; in this sense, students are expected to reflect upon ideas and should not be assaulted by them.

Arafat alive, but in coma

·

CLAMART, France -- Yasser Arafat was reportedly fighting for his life Thursday at a French military hospital after losing consciousness, as anxious Palestinian officials transferred some of their 75-year-old leader's powers to Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia.

From demon hordes to sith lords

·

This November, we're living in the midst of exciting times. No, not because basketball's starting and not because of opportunities for America to show its opinion on would-be evil dictators.

Reinventing the 'Dead'

·

With the horror genre of films being nowhere near the popularity that it enjoyed during the 1980s and new ideas running dry, Hollywood has taken to remaking popular horror cinema from foreign countries and old classics.

Back to the mean streets

·

"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" is the newest title in the series of mayhem-inducing, violence-driven games that question moral values.

The Indiana Daily Student

An introduction to da ruckus

·

It was about 11 years ago that nine New York City rappers put together one of the most consistent, hard-hitting and raw hip-hop albums ever created.

The Indiana Daily Student

Going to a concert? Don't do this

·

Let me be the first to say that I love concerts. My budget only allows me to make rent, pay my bills and maybe get some groceries every now and then, but if there is a little surplus cash on hand (and there's an act in town worth seeing), I'm the first one willing to see a live show.

R. Kelly, Jay-Z half-ass newest album

·

It appears Jay-Z's retirement was even shorter than expected. Too bad his latest move to take the helm of Def Jam Records, a collection of poor, outtake-ridden songs written and performed with R. Kelly, hits the ground like a lead balloon.
