Ashcroft, Evans resign positions

WASHINGTON -- Attorney General John Ashcroft, a favorite of conservatives, and Commerce Secretary Don Evans, one of President George W. Bush's closest friends, resigned Tuesday, the first members of the Cabinet to leave as Bush heads from re-election into his second term.

Alumna killed in car accident

Soldiers happy to be home after tours of duty in Iraq

Sophomore Travis Roll is trading in his knives, goggles, flak jackets, torches and other equipment he has used for the past three months. The lance corporal marine has switched battlegrounds and is now prepared to face another semester of classes after serving in Iraq.

IU squad travels for international games

For four Hoosier players and the IU women's basketball coaching staff, the chance to participate internationally was too good to pass up as they went to Australia, Canada, Guatemala and Cuba this summer.

Senior ready to bounce back from knee injury

After sitting out two seasons because of medical redshirts, senior Jamie Gathing was awarded a sixth year of eligibility for the 2004-05 season by the NCAA. The Kankakee, Ill., native will rejoin a Hoosier lineup this year that features 11 returning letter winners from last season.

However, last year's Hoosier team, buoyed by one star, Bracey Wright, for lack of a better phrase, fell flat on its face. Finishing with a 14-15 record, the Hoosiers failed to make the NCAA tournament for the first time in 18 years, snapping the second longest streak of consecutive appearances in the Big Dance.

Coming into his fifth season as head coach of the men's basketball team, IU coach Mike Davis has his work cut out for him. McGraw wins Song of the Year

Big careers come from small school

The building at 1127 Atwater Ave. looks like any other student house. An old front porch leads into a small living room, and creaky wooden stairs lead to the bedrooms and bathroom on the upper level. But this isn't just any other students' house -- it's the school of social work. "When I go to parties and people ask 'What's your major,' I tell them social work, and they're always like, 'What? Sociology?'" said freshman Jana Gillespie.
