Israel’s Labor Party voted Tuesday to join the incoming government of Benjamin Netanyahu, lending a moderate voice to a coalition dominated by hardliners and easing concerns of a head-on confrontation with Washington over Mideast peacemaking.

Fundraiser directs resources to Iraqi refugees

The Bloomington Peace Action Coalition will host a fundraiser from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the John Waldron Arts Center that will benefit Direct Aid Iraq, an organization that brings refugees together with medical and humanitarian resources.

US takes steps to deport alleged Nazi to Germany

CLEVELAND — The U.S. government said Tuesday it is asking German officials for travel documents needed to deport accused World War II Nazi guard John Demjanjuk, who is charged in Europe with 29,000 counts of accessory to murder.

Bishop to skip Notre Dame commencement over Obama

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Roman Catholic bishop whose diocese includes the University of Notre Dame says he will boycott President Barack Obama's May 17 commencement speech at the Catholic school because of Obama's support for abortion rights and embryonic stem-cell research.

Hoosiers close in on tourney win

IU faces No. 15 Louisville

Cinderella takes a year off

Cinderella has taken the year off from the latest edition of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, and college basketball fans should be happy about that. With the exception of Wake Forest and Washington, the top four seeds in each region are alive and well after this weekend’s second-round action.

The Honor! Festival, a celebration of the African-American cultural legacy, has drawn full audiences at Carnegie Hall this month. A three-week comprehensive survey of African-American expressive arts curated by singer Jessye Norman, the festival drew extensively from the knowledge and resources of IU professor Portia Maultsby.
