Google Books to begin digitalization of IU folklore collection

Older and forgotten books in IU’s extensive library collection often fall by the wayside in researchers’ attempts to get the most out of what the libraries have to offer. By digitizing the books through the Google Books Project, every book will be available online for researchers’ use.

IU support staff continues to push for livable wages

As Hoosiers’ budgets remain tight, IU’s support staff union, Communications Workers of America Local 4730, continues to plead for raises and representation. The union is fighting for livable wages and a “seat at the table” on the health care blue ribbon committee, a group formed by IU President Michael McRobbie to find more cost-effective methods for health care.

With a possible trip to the NCAA Regionals at stake, the IU women’s golf team will travel to West Lafayette for the Big Ten Tournament this weekend.

The fourth-seeded Hoosiers will take on fifth-seeded Brown University at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Harvard University’s Blodgett Pool. The Hoosiers beat Brown 9-8 earlier this season in the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.

Army Women look to prove doubters wrong

Originally a team of ROTC women, Army Women had five riders in the top 40 of Individual Time Trials and two in the Miss ’N Out semifinals as well as placing sixth in Team Pursuit.

On Saturday, Phi Delta Theta will try to be the first team to win the Little 500 from the pole position since Dodds House in 1998. No team from the front row has won since 2000.

Fla. judge’s career finished over ties to stripper

Thomas E. Stringer spent more than three decades quietly building his legal career in Florida, working his way up from an assistant state attorney to appeals court judge in the Tampa Bay area. In 2007, he was inducted into his law school’s hall of fame.

SC wildfire spreads near tourist beach; homes burn

A coastal wildfire spread Thursday near one of the busiest tourist stretches in South Carolina, burning dozens of homes and forcing hundreds to flee in the middle of the night. No injuries were reported and officials said the blaze appeared to be heading several miles north of the most densely populated areas.
