Undefeated team to face former head coach Freitag

After two wins last weekend in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic against St. Louis and Dayton, the No. 10-ranked men’s soccer team is back in action this weekend in South Bend for the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament. They will face Bucknell and Denver.

Veteran IU squad starts year in Illinois

The Hoosiers will open their fall season this weekend at the Northern Intercollegiate in Aurora, Ill. Northern Illinois will have the 54-hole stroke play event at Rich Harvest Farms, a par-72 course listed among Rolex World’s Top 1000 Golf Courses.

Campus leaders optimistic after La Casa incident

During the 2009-10 school year, 121 incidents of harassment and discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, gender or sexual orientation were reported to the Incident Teams, an IU institution that helps students report acts of discrimination or harassment and create a plan of action to resolve them.

Hoosiers hope for better outcome than in 2009

Two seasons ago, the Hoosiers travelled to Charlottesville, Va., for a seemingly even matchup between two teams looking for a non-conference statement win. They left with a 47-7 loss, managing barely half as many yards on offense as the Cavaliers, a team that would go on to a 3-9 record and fire their coach following the season.

Jacobs organist shares personal chronology for love of music

Janette Fishell began playing piano at age five.Fishell now works as a professor in the Jacobs School of Music. She recently embarked upon a 21-concert, three-year project, “The Seasons of Sebastian,” in which she performed the complete organ works of J. S. Bach for the first time on campus and in the Bloomington community.

MAC welcomes a full ballet and opera schedule

IU Opera and Ballet Theater Production Director Tim Stebbins said he is confident everyone can find something to enjoy this season, from comedies to dramas. “There’s going to be a little bit of something for everyone this season,” Stebbins said. Favorites like “The Nutcracker” and “Candide” will be joined by new productions such as “The Sleeping Beauty” and “Der Rosenkavalier”.

Campustown, local IU wares store, to close its doors after 40 years

Jim Cushing remembers when CDs sold like wildfire. He remembers when an IU T-shirt cost $3.99. He remembers when physically going to a store was the only way to buy things. A lot has changed since those days, but Cushing has been manager of Campustown, an IU goods and apparel store, through it all. Now Cushing must manage the store through its biggest change — its closing.

A plea for respect, political decency

Last week, Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina announced to ABC he was not planning to attend the president’s speech about his job creation proposal. He’s not alone, either — Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois also announced last week that he would not be attending. You might be thinking, “So what?” Well, stop thinking that.
